How to be a Junior in a Freshman dorm.

Take a step into a college dorm filled with college students all three years younger than you. It shouldn’t be that bad, three years isn’t that long. Right? 

     Wrong. 

     Think back. You are 21 years old. Think back to when you were 18. How different are things for you? How different are you? A lot has happened in those three years, those years were the maturing years. When you were 18 you were stupid. You didn’t care about work or school, you just partied all the time (like the Eddie Murphy song.) Now, you’re older. You like to go to the bar, have a beer or two, relax, and listen to music. You don’t want to stand in a dirty smelly basement fighting over a keg of cheap skunk beer.

     Now, living in a college dorm, you are going to want to be social. You want to make some friends. Now this is tricky. Remember when you were younger. You were foolish. You were stupid. And there was a lot of drama. Well be prepared to live that time all over again, but this time you are the mature one. It is now your turn to be the “old head”. All these immature games these kids will be playing will drive you insane. They’ll be playing video games. They’ll be yelling. They’ll be fighting. They will be engaging in sexual relations. They will be experimenting with drugs. And while all this is going on, you will be trying to study and/or sleep. And don’t underestimate the number of people who will ask you to buy them alcohol.

     Be prepared to step into this ferocious habitat of those with less knowledge. You can do this, it’s only for 4 months. Don’t get angry. There is no one to blame that you’re in a freshman dorm…. except for maybe the people at college housing who messed up and misplaced you.
