I don't believe you should ever feel guilty about your pleasures. However, there are these little things people refer to as "guilty pleasures." The things you know you shouldn't be so obsessed with. The things you do when there are about a million better things you could be doing. And the things you buy when you really don't have the money to be buying them.
But sometimes you have to indulge. And here's where I go in Boston when I'm ready to give into one of my guilty pleasures.
Books
It’s probably hard for you to believe that books could possibly be part of my list of guilty pleasures. But when you buy as many books as I do, books become a very guilty pleasure. At first, you don’t feel guilty about buying books because they’re books! I can buy as many as I want and know they’re going to the furthering of my education, my mind, my future. But then the bank account starts to dwindle and I begin to realize that even though books are wonderful things, they still cost money.
The Brookline Booksmith contributes greatly to my book addiction for many reasons. First of all, I live way too close to it. I walk by this place everyday and everyday they have beautiful tempting books sitting right in the window. Plus, this book store is so non-corporate and comfortable, I could spend hours just walking around or sitting in a comfy chair.
Plus, because the Brookline Booksmith is an independent book store, I feel like I need to support it. So I’m really just doing my duty, right?

Some day, I hope to bring my guilty pleasure to a whole new level and live in a house with a room like this. Not only do I love it, but I’m going to need it with the way my book collection is growing. And yes, the ladder is a necessity.
By now you’re probably aware that I have a slight obsession with cupcakes. And that my cupcakes of choice come from Party Favors in Brookline. These cupcakes are seriously amazing and once you try them, you will want to go to Party Favors every single day. Mmmm I want one now…even if it is 9:00 a.m. Breakfast, anyone?

See? They’re so beautiful you may not even want to eat them. Wait, scratch that. You will want to eat them. All of them.
Sushi isn’t a guilty pleasure in that “omg, I’m indulging in gross, unhealthy food!” It’s more of a guilty pleasure in that “I love really good sushi and Douzo has the best, but it’s so, so expensive!” But worth it. I could probably eat at Douzo every night for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. I love sushi. and I love Douzo sushi the best.

Why can’t it all be free?
The Internet and Blogging
The Internet, and more specifically blogging, is definitely a guilty pleasure for me. I have about a billion things I could be doing that would be more lucrative to me than hanging out on the Internet. But this is yet another guilty pleasure I allow myself to indulge in. But I, like the man in the picture, will probably be blogging right until my death.
No, I’m not trying to say that alcohol is one of my guilty pleasures. I’m saying that lolcats are. I could hang out on this website all day, just laughing to myself and sending my friends the hilarious images of cute cats speaking in Internet talk. I don’t even like cats and I love lolcats.
I Can Has Cheezburger is where all the lolcats hang out. Go visit and play with them for a while. You’ll be LOL’ing your butt off!
Try Not to Feel So Guilty
Take a tour around Boston to indulge in all my guilty pleasures. Of course, if you visit all of them in one day, you might have to go repent or something. But I promise you it will be worth it!!
Music
Another thing I spend way too much money on is music. To me, music is like a drug-free mood-booster and can make me feel better in most situations. So, this is how I justify my splurging on music. Not only do I purchase so much, but when I see my favorite bands are coming into town, I can’t help purchasing tickets to see them live. Ticketmaster and Live Nation e-mail updates are my enemy, but I love them just the same.
The Paradise is one of my favorite places to see live bands. It’s so small and intimate and if you get there early enough, you can usually snag a spot right up front. Also, the ticket prices are way better than what you’ll pay at a larger venue.

You might have to wait in line out front if you want to get a spot up front.
The Paris Creperie. My home away from home. I crave these crepes like crazy. Especially on weekend mornings. And sometimes I just have to let myself indulge. I especially love the crepes filled with cheese, ham, and egg. But am also a big fan of the Nutella. Huge guilty pleasure, but one I deserve after a night on the town. Right?

Yum yum, a ham and cheese crepe with a nice green salad to balance the delicious greasiness of the crepe.
Mr. Crepe in Somerville also has an extremely extensive and really great crepe menu, but it’s a bit more expensive than Paris Creperie.

Greek
My newest guilty pleasure of a TV show is Greek. I’m long done with college and was never part of the Greek system, so I’m not really sure why I’m so obsessed with this show. But it’s sooo addicting, plus all the episodes are online. In some ways, it makes me want to go live the college life again, and in others, it makes me want to stay far, far away. Thank you, ABC Family, though I’m pretty sure this show is not suited for the whole family.
Sunset Grill and Tap is a guilty pleasure for me because it combines so many of my guilty pleasures all under one roof. Amazing but oh so bad for me food and tons of beer and sangria. Couldn’t really ask for anything more. Oh, and it’s on the way to The Paradise!

Favorite Beer
Krusovince Cern is my favorite beer ever and Sunset is one of the only places in the area that carries it. Reason enough for me to go!
Favorite Appetizer
Sunset also has some pretty amazing nachos and I can basically eat a whole order. But make sure to save room for your dinner. And the desserts here are surprisingly delicious. So yeah, save room for them too.
