Guilty Pleasures: Reality TV shows
It's summer and Reality TV shows are taking over the airwaves... Producers love them because they're cheap to make, and we love them because just maybe we can get our 15-minutes of fame... Not to mention, well, the whole schadenfreude thing... I'm not afraid to admit I'm hooked on more than one of these series... what about you?? What are some of your favorites, the ones you love to hate, and why?
Okay. That’s just one of the reasons why I love ABC’s Wipeout. You know you giggle every time they say “Big Balls” too.
The show is just over the top ridiculous… and awesome. I’d never do it, but I’ve got some people in mind that I wouldn’t mind seeing try to make it through the course… (hehehe)
The latest teen drama...
16 and Pregnant is one of MTV’s newer reality shows… I don’t know how I get trapped into MTV shows… but I do… This one in particular… well, I have no interest in becoming pregnant any time soon, and I guess this reinforced that.
One of my biggest worries with this show, teens will get pregnant just to be on it… when most of the point of the show is to show all these kids how hard having a baby really is… oh, MTV…
I'm a... yeah, whatever...
I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of here!! … So I didn’t think much of this show… at all… but then I got sucked in!!! gah!! One thing I will say, it made me look at IL’s former 1st lady, Patty B. a little differently. Sure, nothing can really change what Blago did… but it doesn’t mean we have to go after their whole family or anything.
Anyway. This was sort of surprising. John Sally doing his “I’m afraid of spiders” dance… yeah… and then well, you had to deal with all the Spidie issues…
Schadenfreude:
Schadenfreude (pronounced /ˈʃɑːdənfrɔɪdə/, German pronunciation: [ˈʃaːdənˌfʁɔʏ̯də]) is pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. This German word is used as a loanword in English and sometimes in other languages. Philosopher and sociologist Theodor Adorno defined schadenfreude as “largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate.”
… thank you wikipedia…
Mmmm.... Mancandy....
I definitely have gotten into the Bachelor and the Bachelorette lately… with the later being my favorite. I mean, seriously… who would want to watch a show with 25 guys showing off their romantic side (and the well-built bodies too)…
The show does what good reality tv shows should do… wraps you up in all the little drama… (ie. Wes) … and you start falling for some of the guys yourself (as much as you can from a TV show — Jake, Michael… ahem)
Outwit, Outlast, Out of their minds...
I can’t remember when I got hooked on Survivor… I think it was the one with Ozzy in it… (It’s always the guys who get me hooked)… I’ve sort of lightly followed it ever since… Although this past season, CBS took down the episodes before I finished the season. (jerks.)
Let's give them guns!
Yep. CBS decided to invite 5 celebrities to my hometown — yes, my hometown of Muncie, Indiana, and make them cops.
Armed & Famous got canceled really quickly. But not without showing Latoya Jackson freak out over a cat. Seriously. Oh. And Yeah. You should watch the taser scene. :)
