Guidespud's Excellent (albeit short) Cape Cod Family Vacation

Faced with a planes, trains and automobiles trip to Cape Cod with his two new bff's, Ian and Teddy, Guidespud dove right in to what would become his own personal Titanic. Here's a guide for families on Cape Cod. It's an excellent family vacation.
The first stop On GuideSpud's tour
We stopped at Ian and Teddy’s grandma’s house for some fun in the sun at their pool.
The vacation started simple enough
With some swimming in Grandma’s pool. Until…
What? Wait! Oh noooooo.
Get out of here, you stupid little potato. It’s my turn on the board.
Ouch.
Luckily, Doc Daddy put Guidespud back into shape.
On To Cape Cod
The family, Ian, Teddy, Mom, Dad and Guidespud packed up the car and were off to Brewster MA in the heart of Cape Cod on the bay side.
Get off of me!
Ah, brothers.
Relaxing on the Cape!
Little did Guidespud realize, his hours were numbered…
First, let's take this thing apart
Oh nooooo.
And that was it, we never saw Guidespud again.
Yes, these two scoundrels look innocent. But beneath these cute little rascals smiles’ lurk some truly sinister plans.
Actually, that’s a bit much. My kids buried the little plastic toy and we never found the little sucker. Looked for quite a long time, though.
Food is okay at best. But they serve some pretty good deep-fried shrimp and clams. Hunky-dory for mom and dad. And they have a palatable kid’s menu.
We went here twice in 6 days. Mainly because they have a swing set, slides and a bouncy tent ( or whatever you call it) that occupies that painful misbehaving time between ordering and the food arriving.

Our top dining experience. We are still debating whether it was because our kids were so well-behaved, we had been eating crap lately or the food was splendid. I think we settled on the latter.
I had the surf and turf. Julie had the haddock. Both delicious. Kids menu was more than just fries along with a cheese dish, hot dog or chicken fingers. It was all tasty and quick.

Here I come Daddy!
Uff. Jeez Ian. Don’t jump right on me!
Brewster General Store
Entering Brewster, one is greeted by on old General Store full of confections, coffee and friendly greetings. Yes, this is going to be a good vacation.

Chosen for its ideal location, we were pleasantly surprised to find this is an ideal resort for a family. It’s right on the main drag in Brewster, the only Cape Cod village without the quintessential and picturesque Main Street full of expensive shopping. Perfect!

Off to the Beach
Which, with two small children, is a most exhausting and messy affair. Ocean Edge has it’s own private beach which we discovered on our second day of the adventure. Because of Cape Cod’s abounding tides, we spent the day first with waves and sun and ended it exploring tidal pools and hermit crabs.
Time to start digging
When we leave the beach tonight, I’ll have sand in every crack, joint and area of my body!
Hey Spud, wanna play?
I can make a hole and throw you in it.
Ha, ha, ha, haaaaa!
Now try to find Guidespud.
Our new Spud
But it just wan’t the same.
The (in)Famous Black Dog Tavern
We actually ate there. And bought Teddy a Black Dog hat. But there are Black Dog apparel stores in every town on the Cape. The clothing is certainly far more famous than the restaurant.
The food was superb (yes, considering it’s tavern food.) I had mouthwatering crab cake sandwich. Julie had palatable cod . The kids loved the french fries.

The Black Dog Tavern
In all it’s glory. You need a boat to get here by the way.
