New Guidespot Features Released The Week of: 9.14.09
Guidespot had a HUGE release yesterday... I will cover all the goodies that were released below... But one of the most exciting things deserves to be chatted about here in the description... After months of requests from various users and lurkers, Guidespot is trying out the one-column guide creation option. Let me tell you about it, what we have planned, and then, TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!
Please Welcome: Single-Column Guides
Authors can now create their guide in one-column formatting, or convert existing two-column guides into one-column guides.
You can view how your existing guide will look in a single-column guide before you save it as a single-column. After saving it in a single-column, you can revert back to the two-column format; however, you will have to drag and drop your guide objects back into the other column for your desired layout.
At this time only the author of the guide can change the view of the guide from double-column to single-column.
Please look further down on the bottom of this guide to see what Guidespot HQ has in store for the future of single-column guides, and guide building in general.
New Category: There is a new category titled, Business Review. We recommend picking this category if you are writing a guide on a single business. This will help users have an easier time finding your guide on Guidespot.
Separation of Categories: The old category option of the combined, “News, Politics, and Pop Culture” is now split into two, “News & Politics” and “Pop culture”. All guides that originally had the category of News, Politics, and Pop Culture will automatically plop into the Pop Culture. If necessary, please go and change your guide category to the appropriate category.
I'm a Divider, Watch Me Roar
Divide Up Your Single-Column Guides: if a text element only has a header with no description, and is saved as a single-column guide. Then the text will will display as a divider, and no comment option will be available.
You Can Make Your Photos HUGE
If you make your guide as a single-column guide, the new maximum photo size with no text is 630 width and 500 height, and with text is 410 width and 500 height.
Two-Column guide? It won’t apply. Boo.
Here is what we have planned out for the next major release, which will be in early November:
- Grouping: A business or custom location can be added to any guide element… Meaning you can create a text box and then include a business or location within the same element.
- Rich Text Editing: Every text entry box, excluding the guide description text bpx, will have a rich text editing tools (the same tools you now have on the text box).
- Links Will Be Easier to Implement: Links will no longer be an object on its own, and authors will be able to access and use it from the rich text tool.
- Divider: A divider tool will be added.
- Did You Mean X?: Customer location will suggest closest business if one exists
- Convert All Guides to Single-Column — MAYBE: All guides will be edited in single column (We are exploring possibilities, but we are thinking of converting ALL guides into one column.
- Photo Placement: Images can be placed on right, left, or center based on the authors’ decision.
- Maps and Listings: Maps that have businesses added to them will list the listings below the maps.
- Make Mapping Easier: Businesses will automatically add to the map on a guide, rather than having to do it manually.
