Question: What really is a Guide? Answer: After telling everyone I meet about Guidespot, I came up with a phrase that seems to hit the spot, “A guide is a visual list.”
The convo continues based on what the next question is, but the basic idea of something visual seems to help my friends understand that a guide is interactive.
Q for you GSpotters: What has worked for you when explaining what a guide is?
What Happened to My RSS for Top Guides?
hi, where is the best list of guides? i used to have an update to that on my igoogle page, but not its all screwy. where is the pae now? added by goigri
Question: What Happened to my RSS for Top Guides? Answer: Hi goigri, Great question and thanks so much for letting me know! Many of our users told have us that they never saw the Top Guide category changing very much and that they didn’t like that, so last night we changed the algorithm.
Unfortunately, this improvement might have messed up your RSS feed to the Guidespot Top Guides on your igoogle reader. I am so bummed this happened, but I you can reload the Top Guides RSS feed back in by clicking on the RSS bottun on the bottom of any Guidespot page. Thanks for your input!
Q for you goigri: Do you like where the current RSS feed icons are displayed on Guidespot, or do you have any other suggestions of better placement so they are more visible, easier to find, and easier to find what the feed is referring to?
For Example...
Filtering Author Guides?
Question: How do I organize my own guides in my profile or any author’s profile that I am looking at so I can filter by date or category and not just alphabetically?
Question: Filtering Author Guides? Answer: At this time, the only way you can see your own guides, or any author’s guides is alphabetically. In a future release, we will offer other filtering options to improve your experience.
Why can't I select addresses or businesses from other countries?
Question: Why is there only U.S. stuff for “Custom Address” and “Business/Attraction” thus not allowing me to add a map, etc for somewhere other than the great USA??? I’d like to make guides that have locations/maps for other countries!
Question: Why can’t I select addresses or Businesses from other countries? Answer: Hi eye2wild, you are not alone, and we have had many people request the ability add in businesses and maps for other countries, and I am aware that it is a an important and large request! At this time we only offer US business listings and maps because we are trying to grow as much as possible in the US first before we take over the world (that is the end goal of course)! Integrating international business listings and maps should also include language support… So we want to make sure that we don’t only offer the ablity to add in international listings and maps, but that all users are able to communicate in their native language with ease.
Where is The Top List of All Guides?
wheres the top list? if theres not a top list of the best guides then whats thepoint of having thumbs up? thank you for your answer on the rss feed because it seems to be working better. added by goigri
Question: Wheres the top list? If theres not a top list of the best guides then what’s the point of having thumbs up? Answer: Hi goigri, Thanks for your question about the disappearance of the Top Guides page, which used to be on Guidespot before we launched with the new homepage and categories in August of 2008. At this time, the only way you can view top guides is by using the “Sort By” filter option under a specific category on a search results page. Right now however, there is no way to view the Top Guides for all of the guides on Guidespot, but it doesn’t mean we can’t add this back in somehow… Read below to hear my suggestions! Thanks again goigri, I also posted your question/request and answered it in The Guidespot Community Guide.
