This Saturday, April 25th, 2009 marks the 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. The event will take place in downtown L.A. and promises to be cheesy, delicious and awesome. $5 gets you in. I will add many photos of this year's event after tomorrow. But here are the details.
Velveeta
The grilled cheeses of my childhood were nothing like the fancy versions that Saturday promises. No, they were made with wheat bread, margarine and VELVEETA. WTF is this stuff, anyway? It sure as heck is not cheese!

If you’re taking the Red Line it’s less than a mile to walk from Union Station. If you take the Gold Line it’s even closer to the Chinatown stop! Parking is sure to be kind of a clusterf*ck, so this is a good idea. Plus, save the earth and be smug and all of that.
Kraft Singles
This is the second year that the event will be sponsored by Kraft Singles. I love to eat these things as snacks because I am a disgusting person.
Judging Guidelines
From their website:
- Presentation: How does the sammich look? (Scale of 1 – 10, 10 being highest)
- Taste: How does it taste? (Scale of 1 – 20, 20 being highest)
- Wessonality: Is this sammich special? Deliver Style points here (Scale of 1- 5, 5 being highest)
- SPAZ: The Weird Factor (Scale of 1 – 15, 15 being biggest Spaz)
I’m not sure why they insist on referring to the sandwiches as "sammich"s (actually I kind of hate this), but I love the SPAZ Factor!

Any kind of bread, any kind of butter, and any kind of cheese PLUS additional ingredients(the interior ingredients must be at least 60% cheese).
The Honey Pot
Any kind of bread, any kind of butter, and any kind of cheese (the interior ingredients of the sammich must be at least 60% cheese), and with an overall flavor that is sweet and would best be served as dessert.
