In LA sushi joints are just as common as boob jobs. But like boob jobs, some are definitely better than others. Here are a few that won't break the bank or leave you clutching your stomach at the end of the night.
The Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya
8420 W 3RD ST LOS ANGELES, CA 90048
This Japanese-style pub is a great addition to the Katsu-ya family. All the Katsu-ya favorites are here (spicy tuna on crispy rice and albacore with crispy onions) but there are also welcome additions like lamb and short ribs.
Boss Sushi
268 S LA CIENEGA BLVD BEVERLY HILLS, CA 90211
Located on an unsuspecting stretch of La Cienega, Boss is a reasonably priced sushi restaurant with a menu so long it could be referred to as reading material. They’ve got many a crazy roll for the tasting, but the tuna tartar “nachos” (don’t worry, they use rice chips) are king.
Hirozen is hidden away in the corner of a minimall and you would be wise to make a reservation beforehand (yes, even on a Tuesday night). The space is TINY and it is well-known for offering quality sushi that doesn’t brake the bank. It also gets a little loud, so don’t expect a romantic dinner.

Yes, this place is located in Calabasas, and it is the size of your living room, but you won’t be sorry if you squeeze yourself in there. Everything on this menu is delectable (especially the spicy tuna on crispy rice cakes). And try not to lose your lunch if you see the sisters Kardashian—their store is in the same minimall.
Izakaya Haru Ulala
368 E 2ND ST LOS ANGELES, CA 90012
Choosing a sushi restaurant in Little Tokyo may seem a little daunting, but you can’t go wrong with Haru Ulala. A filling dinner (including drinks!) for two can be had for under $40. The sushi is tasty, but don’t restrict yourself to the fish—the small plates are excellent. Where else can you get a piece of deep-fried sweet potato on a stick?
