Good times in Baton Rouge
So you're in the Red Stick and looking for something to do? After living here for several years I got a good taste of what Baton Rouge has to offer, aside from restaurants. Here are a few of my favorite places in Louisiana's capital.
The Louisiana Capitol Building. Of course, the interior of this building is largely off-limits or terribly unexciting. You’ll see the reason for visiting upon your arrival. The capitol is surrounded by beautiful gardens, historic statues, and one of the nicest parks in the state with vantage points overlooking the Mississippi river.

It gets hot in Louisiana. Really hot. What better way to cool off than putting on your bathing suits and taking your family to the water park? Big slides, a wave pool, and even bumper boats will bring smiles to the faces of almost anyone.

Going hand-in-hand with Blue Bayou is the neighboring amusement park, Dixie Landing. What better way to dry off than hopping on a roller-coaster?

While I don’t suggest you visit the actual ‘system office’, LSU has tons of things to see and do around campus. Whether you want to tailgate before a football game, see a theater performance, or picnic under old live oaks, LSU has something for almost everyone.

Care to see the Battle of Gettysburg reenacted on small scale? Little Wars has everything you need to recreate almost any historic battle. Stop by on a Friday night to meet the historic miniature society and they’ll even let you take part!

Need a good laugh? Come out to the Funny Bone to see some of the best improv and stand-up comics the area has to offer.

While you’ll occasionally find something going on here during the day, the best time to visit the observatory is at night. The observatory has something going on almost every Friday and Saturday evening. You’ll also find the occasional weekday event if you check their calendar ahead of time.
