Go on the Best Dates in AZ—Three Novel and Creative Guides

Share on StumbleUpon Add to del.icio.us Share on Facebook

Many people will happily admit that they are indeed romantics. However when it actually comes time to think of that perfect romantic date, many of us are left rubbing our chins. But this does not mean that there are not plenty of romantic date ideas out there, it just means that we are left to think them up. After dwelling in the Valley of the Sun for the better part of fifteen years, and being married for most of that time, I have been able to successfully devise several dating guides; ones that will make your date oh so memorable; ones that you will never forget. With that having been said, here are three novel and creative dating guides for that Romeo and Juliet in the Sonoran Desert.

Dinner, Art-walk & Dancing

For starters, you want to make sure that both you and your date are well fed if you are both to be walking around enjoying an art-walk and dancing posthumous. This varies from the standard fare of dating in the essence that it offers your date something a little bit different. Sure, most dating occurs inside a bistro of some sorts, but rarely will you hear your date tell you that an art-walk or dancing should be combined all into one dainty evening. That is, until you read this guide and realize that yes, it is indeed a good idea. Keep in mind that to enjoy the art-walk in South Scottsdale this date will have to take place on the first Friday of the month (when they host the art-walk in Scottsdale).

Don & Charlie's

7501 E Camelback Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

The beautiful and elegant city of Scottsdale, AZ, awaits you to kick off your romantic endeavors. The restaurant: Don and Charlie’s Steak house off Miller and Camelback road. This place has withstood the test of time, hailing to the valley for the better part of thirty years, and offering all sorts of fine American Food. They have an amazing prime rib dish (if this is your thing) that is utterly delicious and addictive. They also serve steak and chicken, and fish as well. Dinner here will run you about $100, but it is well worth it. Gourmet food and five-star customer service await you and your date, and the art-walk in Old Town Scottsdale is but a three minute drive from this restaurant.

Scottsdale Art Walk

Once dinner is nestled coyly in your tummies it is time to head to the art-walk, found lining most streets in Old Town Scottsdale the first Friday of each month. The art-walk is a conglomeration of hundreds of vendors and art galleries which all come together on several streets in Scottsdale on night per month. The streets are closed to traffic so you will want to find parking in one of the many free parking garages and then walk over to the festival. Once there you and your date can enjoy walking amongst hundreds of booths featuring art, portraits, sculptures and cultural foods; very romantic.

Picnic Lunch, Pedal-boating & Live Jazz

The city of Scottsdale Arizona offers many daters much in the realm of things to do, places to go, and affordability. If the other date guide looks like it will cost you far too much money, do not fret, here is a great date idea that will cost you almost nothing; really!

Picnic at Eldorado Park

A dainty and romantic picnic atmosphere awaits you at this park.

Whole Foods Market

Eldorado Park

2311 N Miller Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257

A quick stop at the local Whole Foods or other farmer’s market store will net you all the supplies that you need to make the perfect picnic lunch. Make sure to ask your date what types of foods they like so you do not pack the wrong items. You can typically make a great picnic lunch for under $40—do not forget a nice bottle of wine, a basket, blanket to throw on the grass and of course, wine glasses to indulge. The place that screams have a date at my park is Eldorado Park in South Scottsdale. This park offers plenty of rolling, grassy hills, as well as covered tables and BBQ grills; you may even want to consider marinating some meat and grilling it up here.

Pedal-Boating

Pedal-boats are docked at Scottsdale’s Eldorado Park.

Pedal-Boating

After you have both enjoyed your romantic picnic lunch, head to the lake on the Greenbelt where you can rent pedal-boats for about $10 per hour. Then enjoy each others company as you explore a very decently sized, manmade lake that borders the entire park. Make sure that you do not exert too much energy, because it is time to head to the jazz bar afterwards.

Bobby's Jazz club

Bobby’s Restaurant and Jazz Lounge located in North Scottsdale, is just a few minutes from the Greenbelt and offers some of the best jazz in the state. Head there with your date in-hand and grab a table in this small and dimly lit Jazz bar. Drinks are fairly decently priced and they have a huge 24 ounce stacker Long Island Ice Tea that will just go down like water; cab it if you drink too much here. The jazz is amazing and features several different acts each night of the week. So no matter what day or night you end up here, there will be great music for the listening.

Mexican Eats, Walk in Park & Symphony

The city of Phoenix has been in the constant revitalization process of the downtown area, the end result being an extravagant and newer, nicer and far safer downtown area. In an attempt to put the place on the map with other notable cities such as Chicago, this area has seen great growth over the past five years. There are now plenty of great places to eat and dance and of course, the illustrious Phoenix Symphony Orchestra.

If you are looking for a great dating restaurant in downtown Phoenix, head to Aunt Chilada’s located in the heart of the downtown area. The entire restaurant looks like Mexico City inside and is very well decorated. While there, enjoy homemade tortillas and chips, as well as some of the most authentic Mexican food to be had in AZ. This restaurant also features lives music seven nights per week, and you can even order Mariachis to your table to serenade your date. I recommend their homemade burritos and enchiladas while dining here; they are some of the best that I have ever tasted.
