I'd Rather Be In Intercourse, Pennsylvania!
Oh, and Intercourse is just the start. Check out the other funny town names located 'round the state! (And some stuff to do while you're visiting!)
There’s a story about a traveler who is looking for “Intercourse, PA” but gets lost and ends up in “Blue Ball, PA” only to find relief in “Bird In Hand, PA”.
Ok. Someone else wrote that.
So. Let me try my hand at adding to it!
There’s a story about a traveler who is looking to “Mount Joy” in “Intercourse” but she already left to find “Fertility” and “Lickdale”. The traveler goes off the try his luck in “Virginville” but gets lost and ends up in “Blue Ball” only to find “Climax” in “Bird In Hand, PA”.
P.S. What’s the fastest way to “Clymer”? UP HER LEG!

How’d it get named THAT?
Originally called “Cross Keys” the town name was changed in 1814 to “Intercourse”.
There are a few theories:
1. There was a race course called “Entercourse” just outside of town.
2. Two famous roads cross here. One ran from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh the other from Wilmington, DE to Erie.
3. The term “intercourse” was used to describe the fellowship and social interaction common in small rural towns.
So. Get your head out of the gutter, folks!

After Blue Ball Inn, of course. A 200 year old inn that was torn down in the 1990’s.

The first settlers were Native American Shawnees and Susquehannock.
So. Yeah. ’Nuff said.
P.S. My native american name could be “Falls A Lot”. Or, according to the Native American Name Genorator, it’s Witashnah

Climax is close to Clarion University. Someone who wrote this guide may or may not have gone to a keg party there. Once. And it was LAME!
