My Favorite Mexican Restaurants
I live in the Sunnyside neighborhood in North Denver. Lots of good Mexican places nearby. These are my current favorites.
A North Denver institution. This is the go to place if you are in the mode for traditional Mexican food, with lots of melted cheddar. The chile rellenos are excellent, as is the green chile.

Tacos Jalisco does the melty cheese dishes well, and they also do great tacos. Think soft shell corn tortillas with marinated fillings like carne adobada.
The also have super hot and delicious green chile, and offer a salsa bar with lots of interesting choices.

Another institution. Great breakfast burritos. Great “home made” fried tortilla chips. In the summer, sit outside and have a marg on the patio.
You may have seen Jack-N-Grill on the Travel channel’s “Man vs Food” where the host tried to eat the 7 pound breakfast burrito. He got about halfway.

Don’t let the bars on the windows throw, this place kills it. A classic taqueria. Lots of different varieties of taco. All excellent.

Not really a taqueria, by my definition. This place is cheap and awesome.

Best tamales in Denver. Period. Get either green (cheese & chile) or red (pork, sweet, pork). Both are spicy & delicious, the red are a little hotter.
I liked it better when it was a trailer and all they did was takeout. They were open till all of the tamales Grandma made were gone.
Now they have a dining room, a liquor license, and regular hours. You take the good with the bad.
