It may not be pleasant to travel in it, but you can still get out of the house! All of this can be done without spending a dime on anything but a ride on the El, and well... maybe a cup of coffee.
Free on Thursdays, The Art Institute. is a fantastic place to view all of the greats! Winter is the best time to go and view classic art, and stand alone for hours in front of your favorite painting.

Rotating photographic exhibitions focus on the works of one or many artists following common themes and ideas; the museum's frequent tours and special events allow more in-depth explorations of the works on display. The building sits beside Grant Park, just west of the impressive Buckingham Fountain and a block from Auditorium Theatre.

Grab a Free Hug
Chicago is known for people who stand around with signs that say “Free Hugs!” I don’t know about you, but I think everyone could use a hug!
Just do a background check first before you embrace them.
The Winter Bean Blend
It stands in Millennium Park year round, but The Bean (or Cloudgate) is still a work of art, even during the winter.
Winter is a beautiful time to check out the architecture in Chicago, because the tourists aren’t around to capture you in their videos! Trust me, it’s a site to see!

Crafted by famous architect Frank Gehry, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion's towering, flowing form stands at the heart of the park, holding free performances by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus and other groups. Major pieces of public art in the park include the Crown Fountain, where digitally enlarged faces of Chicagoans are displayed on 50-foot-high columns layered by flowing water, and Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate, nicknamed "The Bean." Also holding the McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the park is on the northern end of Grant Park, right in the heart of the Loop and next to Lake Michigan.

Ice Skate In The Park
It’s FREE to ice skate in Millennium Park! However, the only catch is, skate rental is $9. If you have your own skates, bring ’em!
At night is the best time to ice skate in the city. There is nothing like the Chicago view! I recommend this ONLY if you can stand the bitter evenings. Just bundle up, you’ll be alright!

Photograph Your Surroundings
This takes absolutely NO money! All you need is your camera, your friends and their camera, and some creative sparks.
Just look around the city and capture life. It’s everywhere and in this city, you can’t go wrong.
Take a Ride on the EL
Take a ride on the train and let yourself be entertained by all the nut jobs around you. I do it all the time and it only costs me $2.25! Free entertainment by those who don’t realize they are interesting.
Snap a photo while you’re at it!
Laugh At The Trump Building
Located along the Chicago River, the Trump building is nothing but a huge glass structure. I mean props to Trump for recognizing that Chicago is a great city, but that thing is BRIGHT!
When the sun reflects off of the glass, you are blind for about 30 seconds. It’s a fun game when you have nowhere else to walk for a while.
