New York City is a melting pot of people from all over the world. Different continents, different cities, different cultures all pour themselves into a tiny space and each person has to figure out HOW to make a place that is a home to so many, a home of their own. Sometimes all you want to do is cuddle up with comfort food, stretch out and be reminded of the feeling you had as a kid when there was, "no place like home." A statement that no matter the age still rings true. I always did have an affinity for The Wizard of Oz.
It's all about the MAC AND CHEESE
A warm bowl of melted cheese is a universal pleasure. I know I’m not the only kid who found solace at the sight of “The Blue Box.” Nothing against Kraft, but since I was a kid Mac and Cheese has gotten even GREATER, more cheesy, more delicious, more creative and yet, still carries all of the nostalgia of being young.
May I suggest you start off with some Deviled eggs and Hush puppies?

Emotional Eating
FINE. You got me, I’m an emotional eater. Aren’t we all to some extent?
Whenever I’m really missing the feeling of home, or needing something/someone to cuddle up to it’s amazing how something fried, or dipped in butter usually wraps it’s loving arms around me and makes me feel allllll cozy inside. I come from an Italian home where we feed the people to make them feel welcome. My grandmother made sure there was a plate of food in front of me within the first five minutes I walked in the door and sure enough, New York has treated me like my Grandmother, keeping me fed and showing it’s LOVE, through food?
Anything smothered in gravy or served with a biscuit makes me think of summertime picnics in a park. If it were socially acceptable I’d drink gravy from a straw.

I know it’s almost summer but comfort to me means: WOOL. Whether you’re knitting it or wearing it, wool has the same affect as a womb (if you will) and when wrapped around feet, legs, shoulders, etc. makes you feel like you’re in a protective cocoon/womb.
Maybe it’s too hot for wool? Occupy yourself by knitting a nice wool-y hat for next winter. Or maybe a wool stuffed animal that can keep you comfy when you go to sleep.
Filling up your home with things that reflect YOU are key aspects towards making your home feel like, a home. If you have an apartment with blank walls, no shelves to set your books and things, cold floors and smells of yesterday’s Chinese takeout you are not going to feel as comfortable. Paint! Hang up shelves! Throw up some wallpaper. Fill up your place with scents, colors, picture frames, and reminders of where you came from. So maybe your book shelf consists entirely of Harry Potter books and you only collect shot glasses? Awesome, whatever does the trick.
