Public Radio Geeks Unite!
I'm a BIG geek for public radio (I realized my life-long dream when I interned at NPR when I was in college), but everyone's got their favorite when it comes to public radio programming. What's yours?
This American Life
I’ve waxed poetic about my love of Ira Glass on Guidespot before, so it’s really no surprise that this is on here. BTW, I’m listening to TAL as I write this.
Marketplace
So I really have NO comprehension of stocks, finance, or anything having to do with Wall Street, but I find Marketplace consistently compelling.
Good Food
This is a local show that comes out of LA station KCRW (but you can find it online) and it’s all about food! I can rarely listen without drooling everywhere.
Morning Becomes Eclectic
My local station KCRW does a TON of music programming— and all the shows are excellent, but since I can’t put them all on here (I guess I could, but that would border on repetitive), I’m going with Morning Becomes Eclectic, which will give you a pretty good idea of what the station is all about.
Fresh Air
Regardless of who she’s interviewing, Terry Gross always manages to rope me in.
Terry Gross
In case you were wondering what Terry Gross looks like…
Books!
Because I’m a nerd like that.
Says You!
This show is all about words and wordplay— and it’s pretty funny. I even went to see a live taping of it! (Yes, I am a complete and utter dork).
Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!
Yet another nerdy, newsy show to add to the mix.
All Things Considered
All of NPR’s news programs are good, but I’m putting ATC on here just because I heart Robert Siegel.
Robert Siegel
I sort of want Robert Siegel to adopt me.
The Treatment
This another show that comes out of KCRW in LA, and it’s hosted by film critic Elvis Mitchell— he always manages to get awesome guests and has pretty awesome interview skills. The other day he did a great interview with Quentin Tarantino about his new movie “Inglourious Basterds”— I suggest checking it out!
Elvis Mitchell
I sort of want Elvis Mitchell to adopt me also…
All Songs Considered
Because it’s only the best place to discover new music. It’s only online, but who really listens to the actual radio anymore anyway (besides driving time). I love being able to listen to any kind of NPR any time I want!
