There is nothing better than a nice thick book to get you through that cold winter. It may be a short novel or that HUGE one you started, but never finished. Now is the time to pull it out and read it! Tell me what you're reading...

Ok, grab a coffee...

First step before reading a book, or while you’re reading a book. This helps you get in the mood and keeps you awake!

"Extremely Loud and Incredilby Close"

Widget_c9fnge7kvjpogh351hudsl

This is written from a boy’s perspective. It’s sad, it’s funny, and it’s intelligent. I am reading all of Jonathan Safran Foer’s books this winter. He is one of my new favorite authors!

I cried on the bus reading this. It’s truly beautiful!

Too Much

I have this inability to read just one or two books at a time. Currently my “active and in progress” list of books includes:

A Clockwork Orange – Anthony Burgess
Even weirder than the movie. And that’s saying something.

The Tin Drum – Günter Grass
Love me my crazy German novels.

The Name of the Rose – Umberto Eco
Great Medieval mystery piece, very historically illuminating too. This time I’ll finish it, really; it’s my third attempt.

Medieval Russian Tales – unknown
I forget the name of the book, but it’s Russian stories, epics, folklore, history all rolled into one.

Making Money – Terry Pratchett
Light fantasy/comedy book. It’s for when I’m having a bad day, or it’s too late at night to read the really crazy stuff.

Self Help

Widget_dlrvrpuafipicj2ztqyskp

I also can’t read just one book at a time (especially when one is 1,000 pages), so I’m also reading Self Help by Lorrie Moore. Why? Because her Birds in America was one of the best books I’ve ever read and I’ve been meaning to read another one from her for a long time!

New Moon

Yeah…I’ve sadly been sucked into the Twilight frenzy. The first one was so good I couldn’t wait to pick this one up. Unfortunately, it’s not as good as the first. But I hear the next two our worth it so I’ll get through it!

FLANNERY O'CONNOR

I was just given this book of short stories and it is one of the best things I’ve read in a long time. She was an author that died much too young and too soon, but these stories are perfect and complete, with interesting characters and depth. LOVE LOVE.

Stripped: Depeche Mode

Widget_dv0wm_zhhivklc2v5iq9g-

Nonfiction has become more interesting than fiction to me. And I guess I just want to read about how they became rock stars, and how they made some of my favorite albums. I’m about 100 pages in and it feels really good to be reading again!

The 2007 O. Henry Prize Stories

My friend, Bay Anapol, has a lovely short story in this volume called “The Stone House.” That and the other short stories are inspiring me to try my hand at fiction.

"Life WIth My Sister Madonna"

Widget_bo8txh_qlesksywzfono1t

Hey, I love Madonna! Don’t judge, no judging..

So, I just finished this book. Madonna’s brother wrote this book about Madonna, and boy does he lay it out. He is not afraid to say that she used him and others at times. This book truly shed light on the famous pop star.

I’d hate to be her sibling! It’s a good book. Very informative. An easy read too.

"Everything Is Illuminated"

Haven’t read this yet. I wanted to read Extremely Loud first. I’ve heard this is amazing. I will not watch the movie until I read this…. so don’t give it away!

Infinite Jest

Widget_a3kupb7j1gpjvislplsgkz

I was really shocked and saddened by the death of David Foster Wallace and decided that to honor him, I would read something I’ve been meaning to read for a long time. At over 1,000 pages, it will probably take me a bit of time but it’s supposed to be amazing.

Final Exam: A Surgeon's Reflections on Mortality

Widget_djv88pcpjnnlyf8rtnqsbs

I’m really enjoying this book because I love learning about what doctor’s go through to become one. Especially the lessons they learn about life and relationships along the way. It’s an easy read and she really helps the reader develop a relationship with her patients.

I’m about halfway and it has been great. I always think how awesome it would be to have the bragging right of hiking the entire PCT or Appalachian Trail… and then I remember how prone to accidents I am.

I just finished this last night— not as funny as I thought it would be, but a good read nonetheless.

Update: I finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Ended with me sobbing on an airplane. Sigh.

I’m also reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close! Or, at least I’ve read the cover because it came in the mail today from half.com. Yay for $1 books!
