You may not always think about the various chickens throughout pop culture history, unless you made your fortune from creating one, but there are actually more than you may think. Many of which have ingrained themselves into our souls forever. I'm sorry..... I promised myself that I wasn't going to cry.

Super Chicken

That’s right folks, at one time Super Chicken was famous enough to get his own candy. The 60’s cartoon was a segment that would run through episodes of George of the Jungle and was produced by Rocky & Bullwinkle creators Jay Ward and Bill Scott.

Family Guy - Original Chicken Fight

For all of those who have forgotten how it all began in the first place.

It’s officially embedded itself into our popular-culture. They now manufacture and sell a toy modeled after this now famous brawl.

The San Diego Chicken.

Seen here with Ronald Reagan, the San Diego Chicken (aka: “the KBG Chicken” and “The Famous Chicken”) was actually surrounded by a lot of drama. The character was originally created to help promote KBG radio in San Diego but, after increased popularity, moved on to perform at over 500 consecutive Padres games.

In ‘77 there was a dispute over the character when the original man in the suit, Ted Giannoulas, was fired and the new performer received a backlash by the crowd. Eventually Giannoulas won the rights to the character and the chicken was named one of the 100 most powerful people in sports for the 20th century by The Sporting News for helping bring popularity to mascots and helping to spread them across professional sports. I was born in SD and would attend Padres games in my youth, so I was never fully aware of the chicken’s fame outside of the area.

Watch this video; it’s amazing . If you don’t, you’re a damn fool.

“Oh, okay! So now I get it. You weren’t willing to kick down any help, but now you’re trying getting your chomp on with some of my bread?

More people should have read this book when they were little, or at least paid more attention to it.

Camilla

Camilla was a female chicken from the Muppet Show. She had blue eyelids and was used as Gonzo’s love interest. In the film “The Muppets Take Manhattan” she required “mouth-to-beak resuscitation” after hyperventilating

Fried head found in McNugget? That’s the word on the street.

I don’t know if this is a positive or negative thing however, because, although it is really unnerving to find something like this, at least it implies that a real chicken was used to produce your meal. The same cannot be said of the genetically modified clones which have forced KFC to erase the word “chicken” from their title and menu all together.

The Giant Chicken -Family Guy

The Giant Chicken is a reoccurring character on the program family guy, much like the evil monkey that lives in Chris Griffin’s closet. The chicken will randomly show up in the middle of a scene, at which point, a ruthless fight will ensue between him and Peter. These sequences are beyond ridiculous and, although they are extremely entertaining, they have no real bearing on the rest of the storyline whatsoever. That’s actually part of the charm.

Subservient Chicken

Widget_dsiinh1ohd84_a2wf8rhic

The subservient chicken is one of the creepiest advertising campaigns ever invented. It was created to promote Burger King’s TenderCrisp Chicken sandwich and revolved around the slogan “Get chicken just the way you like it”.

A website was launched featuring footage of a man in an unsettling chicken outfit wandering around a darkly lit and sparsely decorated apartment. Site visitors are able to type in requests to which the chicken man would “respond”. Both the format and the video was effectively designed to appear as a seedy webcam.

I used to work at a shitty hotel as a night auditor and someone showed me this site. It would creep the security guard out when he’d catch me behind the counter instructing a grown man that looked like a dust head dressed in a bird costume to give himself fake baths and to do back flips.

How else did you think that it has survived this long?

Robot Chicken

The Robot Chicken featured in the intro of this Seth Green created Adult Swim program is probably the coolest thing about this show. The program ranges from side splitting brilliance to idiotic attempts at dick and fart jokes that completely miss the mark and aren’t even worth the time to insult.

The deciding factor that determines which category a skit will fall under is, of course, generally based on how much weed you have smoked before watching the show in combination with how much the producers smoked while they were creating it. It is a fairly complicated equation rivaling that of Einstein’s theory of relativity and I haven’t quite figured out exactly what that balance may be. If you’re high enough to laugh uncontrollably in appreciation of the concept behind an oven-mit, you’re probably good; feel free to pop in the DVD. Otherwise, try watching a more consistent program.

Terry Taylor

WWF wrestler Terry “Red Rooster” Taylor wasn’t an actual chicken, per se but, by all accounts, he represented one. His finishing and signature moves included “Cock of the Walk” and the “Rooster Wing”.

“I say, I say, hookin’ up with a baby’s mama is more difficult than originally perceived. I reckon it just might be more trouble than it’s worth.”

Chicken Little

Another childhood classic that has been unnecessarily hipstered out by modern technology.
