Have an EXTREME Seattle Summer!!
Maybe "extreme" is a bit of a cliche by now, and conjures up images of teenage douchebags partaking in illegal base jumping while chugging Mountain Dew. Regardless of what you label it as, Seattle has a lot of ways to get your adrenaline fix, especially once the weather finally turns in our favor. Use this sampling of ideas to get out there and create your own Seattle adventure!
The Rat City Rollergirls
This is more of a participatory rush for the fans, but there’s absolutely no way I could exclude these vicious ladies from this guide. Founded in April 2004, the RCRG is Seattle’s (and the Northwest’s) first flat track, all-female roller derby league. And just in case you were wondering, yes, it is possible to get an erection out of fear alone.
Here’s where to go to catch the lovely Rat City Rollergirls… if you’re fortunate enough to get a ticket (they’re sell out quick, but don’t forget to check craigslist!).

Adventure Paintball Park
6357 Whiteman Road S Longbranch, WA 98351
OK, so Adventure Paintball Park is well over an hour outside of Seattle. However, they are one of the few — and by far the best — premier paintball fields in Washington. They have ex-military instructors on site, with whom you can compete against, or you can even camp here overnight to extend the paint-fueled mayhem into a second day.
Make sure to stock up on gear at Butch’s before heading out to Adventure Park. They can sort of make you pay whatever they want when there’s nobody else around.

20 miles North of Seattle is Skydive Snohomish, where you can get 30 minutes of training (which includes instructions on how to pray) before they strap you to a professional and throw you out of a plane, achieving approximately 30-60 seconds of free fall at 130MPH! And you only have to pay them $250!

I’m not a climbing buff, so I’ll just list the insane amount of amenities from their website, which hopefully the climbing-literate will be able to interpret:
~ Over 16,000 square feet of climbing surface
~ The best bouldering in the Northwest
~ Textured walls
~ Natural features
~ 40 foot tall outdoor wall
~ 65 foot indoor lead roof
~ A wide selection of quality routes from 5.4 – 5.13
~ Boulder problems from V-0 to V-12
~ Weight and Exercise equipment
~ Campus board
~ Pro-shop
~ Showers
Although I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of that last thing before.

It simply doesn’t get better when it comes to outdoor wear. Lifetime guarantee? Yes please.

In Parkour, you aim to move from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. Oh, and don’t forget to not break your neck while you’re at it.

Mike Martinez has been skateboarding for over 15 years, and grew up skating the streets of San Francisco. In late 2003 he opened up Inner Space because he felt there was a need for a good indoor skatepark in such a cold and wet climate. Inner Space has hosted demos for Nike, LRG, Popwar, Manik, Fallen, Matix and others, along with seasonal contests and events, and continues to provide a positive community, hub and training facility for local skaters.

Located about 20 minutes outside of Seattle at the base of Tiger Mountain, Seattle Paragliding utilizes over two decades of experienced gliders to get you up in the air with minimal effort and worry. It really doesn’t matter where you’re going or what you’re doing, odds are you’ll need to pick something up from here on the way out of town.

Bow Lake Watersports
18055 Bow Lake Ln Bow, WA
98232
Bow Lake Watersports is an all-inclusive, private wakeboard and water ski lake. They also have a Bed and Breakfast that’s open from April until November. Here you can go for training and instruction at any level. Or if you’re like me, you probably just go there to pull off some sweet jumps* to impress the ladies.
*Note – “sweet jumps” might also include face plants and water wedgies.
Bungee jumping from the Deception Pass Bridge just off of Whidbey Island. Man, does anyone know where I can get a pair of those shoes? They’re hawt!
A more frugal man’s REI. Just don’t go here when it comes time to purchase an athletic supporter.

United Stuntmens Association
I can find little info on where this place actually is, though I do know thanks to their website that they’re on the Eastside and offer an intensive stuntman training course ever summer. The course is run by none other than David Boushey, the slick bastard pictured above. If anyone ends up attending this course, be sure to let me know how to reach Mr. Boushey; I must know what name he has given that glorious mustache of his!
This guy has nothing to do with Seattle, but no doubt that Mr. Boushey would admire his spirit.
Because old people and small children have their own definition of extreme too, which I’m pretty sure caps out somewhere right around amphibious buses.
