A brief guide to the home of Opera Colorado.

Overview

The Ellie Caulkins Opera House is home to Opera Colorado.  It is one of 11 venues housed in The Denver Performing Arts Complex at Speer & Arapahoe streets in downtown Denver.  The current venue space is the result of the renovation of the Auditorium Theater, which was originally built in 1908.  The renovation was funded by taxpayers and private donors, including $7 million donated by the Caulkins family.

Experience

According to Opera Colorado, the space produces a top notch opera experience:

  • Personal seatback subtitles on every chair to translate the lyrics to English or Spanish.
  • Bar service within feet of each entrance level and pre-ordered intermission beverages.
  • You’re never more than 200 feet from the stage, even in the 4th level balcony.
  • Acoustics that give you goosebumps lasting through the night as you remember your favorite arias washing over you.
  • Direct access to Kevin Taylor’s at the Opera House restaurant from the main seating level.

2008-2009 Season

The 2008-2009 Season features perfomances of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, and Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte.
