Your Guide to Seattle's Doggy Basics
New to Seattle and not sure where to take Fido? Adopted your first dog and not sure what to do? Have no fear, I've discovered some of the essential basics you'll need to maneuver you and your pet through the Emerald City.
Where to shop for your pooch:
High Maintenance Bitch
1713 N 45th St Seattle WA 98103
Designer dog accessories abound at High Maintenance Bitch. From the expected such as leashes and collars, to the unexpected such as feathered boas, nail polish, and glitter mascara, this store has got it all.
Sometimes your puppy needs a little spoiling, so why not give ’em some canine couture?
Scraps is quite possibly my favorite pet store in the city. Located in South Lake Union (just above Whole Foods), Scraps has everything from accessories and clothing to homemade doggie goods. The selection is impressive and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Mud Bay is a favorite of mine due to its multiple convenient locations, but more importantly because of it’s overabundance of petcare needs. When it comes to your dogs health, Mud Bay is the place to go. Everyone that works here are experts in the canine and feline industry, so you can certainly rest assured that you’ll be getting the best advice.

Marymoor Park
This is certainly the creme of the crop when trying to find the best off-leash dog area. Located in Redmond (I know, a little jaunt across the pond from Seattle), and dubbed as “Doggy Disneyland,” the off leash area is a 40-acre heaven. Here, dogs can be dogs, as the fields, trails, and beach areas all provide ample areas for tail wagging goodness.
Take caution, if you’re dog is afraid of BIG dogs (basically bigger than us human-folk!) then keep your eyes out! I had a lovely personal experience of my dog BOLTING across the 40acre park when faced with a pack of huge (yet incredibly friendly) Great Danes.

Golden Gardens
Golden Gardens is a good place to go if you’re in the city and looking for somewhere to let your dog roam free. Aside from the off leash area, there’s also an additional area for small or “shy” pets, so if you’re dog isn’t ready to play with the big boys you should consider coming here.

Magnuson Park
Magnuson’s off leash area could be considered the city’s attempt at mimicking Marymoor Park. At only 9 acres big (still much larger than other city areas), this park contains a shy doggy area and beach access (for those hot days where the dogs need to cool down). I personally enjoy this park, but it’s a bit off the beaten path out in Sandpoint.

Woodland Park
My personal doggy stomping ground, I tend to take my dog out to Woodland Park to run around with his friends. Across the street from Greenlake, and an ample enough space to run around and play, Woodland Park beats the others out simply for its convenience in location.
The 188-acre Woodland Park Zoo features 1,145 different animals that include 290 different species from all over the world, including elephants, giraffes, rainforest animals, and the increasingly rare Jaguar.
