Dining out...again!

I have always enjoyed and appreciated reviews by real people eating at real restaurants. Its my assumption that everyone loves good food. Last night, I didn't feel like cooking. Had all the stuff, just not the inclination. So, once again, found myself eating out. Check out what I ordered. You may just want to try it sometime....or not!

A cote

2239 West 30th Ave Denver, Co 80211

A Parisian wine bar located in east Highland. Since we’d eaten a late lunch, neither of us was very hungry. I’ve been wanting to try A Cote for a while…so, Saturday night was the night!

We found the place to be very charming. Interestingly, we walked in and everyone in the entire place was watching a wildlife film about some lion cubs…a bit weird, but its the quirky things about these little tucked away spots that make them appealing to me.

The chalkboard menu is limited, but we found the Assiette de Charcuterie Maison fantastic. It is an assortment of House Rillettes, Paté de Campagne, Duck liver mousse, saucisson, cornichons, and apple chutney. Paired with a glass of wine, it was the perfect small dinner we were looking for.

I am definitely looking forward to trying the parent restaurant next door, Z Cuisine.

Mussels in White Wine Sauce

Via Italian Trattoria & Bar

1801 Wynkoop Street, Denver, CO 80202

So, its Tuesday. I have the ahi tuna ready to make fish tacos, all the taco bar items are prepared, but that’s just not what I want. And, more importantly, I just don’t feel like cooking. Via is just a few steps away, making it an obvious choice.

I ordered the appetizer portion of mussels in wine sauce with a salad.

The mussels were very fresh and perfectly steamed in the wine sauce. The sauce was a traditionally prepared broth that was tasty.

The salad was a bit uneventful. Spinach (the kitchen substituted spinach
for the arugula – which I detest) with white beans and shaved parmesan and a moderate amount of orange vinaigrette and a few grilled shrimp. The shrimp was fresh but could have used more seasoning.

I would recommend ordering a main course portion of mussels with a small side salad, or some Linguini. That would be really tasty.
