Top Haunts for Denver Insomniacs (and DNC Guests Who Can't Get to Bed)

There’s late-night, then there’s the insomniac hours. Only you and the night stockers at grocery stores even know what 4 a.m. looks like, but it really does exist. Pop in a movie and try to doze on the couch, pick up a tried-and-true book and read in bed, nothing is working and you just can’t take it any more, you’ve got to get out.
You know you’re going to be up all night anyways, might as well fortify yourself with a few shots of espresso. Take a book or your laptop and settle amongst ranks of students finishing term papers, night workers and others who just can’t sleep.
Open 24 hours a day, this Starbucks is attached to a Barnes and Noble which is not open all night. Sitting just a few miles northeast of the University of Denver campus, the coffee shop is very popular with college students. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer free internet and is pretty packed in the late night, before it starts rolling around to morning again.
Free wi-fi, great lattes and comfortable seating makes Leela Eurpoean Café the perfect downtown hangout. With music playing and a wide range of patrons, it’s not a quiet retreat, instead exuding a lively vibe at any hour and there are live bands on Friday and Saturday nights. You can also get decent food at any time or come in after work for a beer.
The food at Pete’s Kitchen isn’t good, in the upscale-careful-preparation sense of the word. It is, however, a greasy, satisfying taste sensation popular with people just leaving the clubs or waking up after a long night out.
Find the closest store and its hours of operation.
Call me unusual, but I like going to the grocery late at night… really late at night. Sometimes it’s to pick up a loaf of bread to take home and snack on; sometimes it’s to do my shopping for the week. The people working there tend to give you a bit of a strange look if you’re wheeling a shopping cart full of food around at 3:30, but hey, you never have to dodge haphazard abandoned carts or scampering waist-high children. Many of the King Soopers stores in the Denver area are open 24/7, though not all of them.
Finally you see the sun on the wrong side of the horizon… time for a shower and off to work!
