A photo tour of some of the classic old motel and business signs of Colfax Avenue in Denver. Described by the NY Times as "Rocky Mountains answer to Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco and Greenwich Village in New York". Made (in)famous by Kerouac in his Denver daze. Western ho!

A cowboy diner, topped with, what else. A horse. Because a cow would be just wrong.

Bugs Bunny Motel (it looks like “Big Bunny”, only because a few of the letter pieces have fallen off!)

Cool…Television AND Phones!

A combo motel and “fine detailing shop”. For $1.29, you too can have your car detailed. Except it’s now an abandoned building.

Eddie Bohn Motel and Detail Shop

4814 W COLFAX AVE DENVER, CO 80204

East or West, Tour Both!

A place to bring your “dame” for cocktails and chuck grade steak meal deals!

Where they will make you over just like the lady in the sign. Yearning for that 50’s weathered look?

At one time, it probably was a top star. Now, a one-star establishment.

Those old signs remind me of the best parts of my hometown – kitschy but cool.

Love these old signs – they are so distinctive and have such a different aesthetic from what is seen in the area today. I’m so glad some of them are still around.
