You may recognize the name for their delicious chocolate candies they are so well known for. But this location is my familiy’s stop for our favorite ice-cream from back home….Blue Bell. I don’t know if there is something in the grass the Texas Cows feed on at the Blue Bell Farm’s, but their milk makes for one delicious ice cream. My favorite is Tin Roof, but their vanilla alone is so tasty, one scoop seems like dessert took all day.

For a light dessert, I love heading to the Cherry Tomato for their lemon sorbetto. It’s light, refreshing and the perfect ending to a heavy Italian meal or just on it’s own with a cappucino. Served in a scooped out Lemon skin, the sorbetto is almost frozen solid and the perfect belnd of sweet and tart. Ask for a shot of limoncello to really get the citusy effect.

There are so many choices at Vesta that are absolutely phenomenal, I have a tough time choosing my favorites. One has to be the ice cream sandwiches, made out of small chocolate chip cookies sandwiching dallops of gelatto. Perfect finger foods with about two bites each, and three sandwiches total. Matt’s Wacky Apple is another treat; imagine your favorite caramel apple, times two. Matt Selby, the Chef, rolls it in sweetened crackly crunchies and serves it with ice cream. EVIL!

The first time I went to Rocky Mountain Diner was after a few beers at a friend’s place for a cheeseburger and fries. When waiting to eb seated, I noticed something in the case at the hostess stand. What IS that giant thing? It’s as big as tire! Is that? Why it is. It’s the biggest cheesecake I’ve ever seen, and I’m gonna have some. Forget the burger. I ordered a slice of cheesecake and a glass of cold milk and never looked back. This slice is for sharing, and then some. Rich with creamy cheese flavors and a nice texture. Choices range from strawberry cheesecake to chocolate swirled. Divine.

You know when you miss your southern grandma’s home cooked supper followed by peach cobbler and Blue Bell ice cream? What’s that? You’re not from the South? Not a problem. Steuben’s serves up some of my favorite peach cobbler a la mode in the tradition of good old comfort food that Steuben’s is so successful with. With cold ice cream melting slowly over bubble hot peaches in a flaky crust, you’ll be convinced you’ve died and gone to Texas.

Decadent. French. Oui. Crepes can be either sweet or savory but when your sweet tooth is shouting, “feed me!”, you’ll definitely want to order the sweet versions from Crepes & Crespes. Sweet cream and berries, nutella or chocolate are all perfect pairings to the pancake like wrap that’s so easy to fall in love with.

So you may be able to think of 5 Village Inn locations in a 10 mile radius. Maybe it’s not your first choice for ‘diner’ food. Village Inn does have something going for it and that’s pie. My, oh, my..I sure love pie. From lemon chiffon to silk chocolate, peanut cup to key-lime; and don’t forget Thanksgiving go to’s like pecan and sweet potato pie. regardless of your favorite, the Village Inn prepares honest to goodness homemade pies that rival your grandma’s recipe. Stop in to see what they have in the chilled case or what the special is of the day. Call ahead to place an order for your favorite, but whatever ou do, don’t forget Village Inn when you want a piece of the pie.
