One of the oldest modern furniture retailers in the USA opened their first showroom in Cherry Creek. This huge showroom displays numerous clean and classic lined furniture niches with a wide assortment of styles while maintaining a contemporary feel. Their yearly catalog is like the Sears catalog at christmas, but more fun to look through.

Mod Livin’ was my first stop when I arrived in Denver and drove down the famous Colfax strip. As one of the best known vintage- modern collections in town, they also house new collections from Kartell and Bendtsen for those searching for newer designs. A mix of the two makes your home completely unique.

For decades Crate and Barrel has been a mecca for newly engaged couples to make their wedding registry. But head to their furniture department and you’ll find functional furnishings with classic and comfortable lines that work in a wide variety of architetural settings. Because Crate and Barrel does offer more than furniture, you can outfit your kitchen with serving ware and set your table with dishes while you’re at it!

Ashley Campbell, originally an itnerior designer, opened her self described ‘rustic contemporary’ showroom to offer her style to the masses. This style, so perfect for the Colorado Mountain lifestyle, can be purchased by the piece or as an entire home with their design services. Ashley Campbell provides unique pieces you can be assured aren’t in everyone else’s home.

As one of the most successful and popular retailers of furniture in Colorado, HW Home is doing something right. Just one trip and you’ll know why. They have an incredible mix of styles from more traditional designs to edgier pieces for the wild side of you. I have never left the store without a purchase….it’s the perfect place to go for gifts as well. Candles, pillows, and accessories galore are available right away.

While Z Gallerie has a great collection of furniture, I love it for it’s stylish and affordable accessories. From large vases, artwork, picture frames and decorative knick-knack, Z Gallerie is a virtual candy shop for adults looking for the perfect piece to finish a room. If you need a rug, table top accessories or even a fabulous gift, Z Gallerie is a great spot to stop in.

Do you need paint? Is the powder room seriously ready for a make-over? Well the Home Depot has EVERYTHING you can think of from mirrors, sinnks, washing machines, paint, flooring materials and hardware to make all of your chores less daunting. An added feature here are ‘how-to’ classes that help you with tips that the professionals know.

Locally owned by interior designer Heather Mourer, One Home not only offers fantastic modern furniture and accessories, but they are also well known for their Interior Design. This corner shop offers something for every room and carries several big name manufacturers like B&B Italia and Knoll. Heather is a decorated designer with a great eye. Denver is lucky to have such a cool, local design store.

This Design Within Reach (DWR) location opened in July of 2004 and is still a destination for modern furniture afficianados. Known for carrying licensed reproductions of major mid-century modern classics from Eames, Saarinen, Wegner, and LeCorbusier….DWR houses thousands of square feet worth of furniture in their Kentucky warehouse so most items are in stock and ready to ship directly to your door. With over 65 Studios across the country, you’re able to ‘test drive’ the furniture before ordering and see fabrics and colors up close and personal. DWR also hosts fantastic design related events to get the local design community together.

It’s almost impossible to drive past Zeitgeist and not want to stop and peer into the windows, which are filled with George Nelson Bubble lamps, Kartell chairs and stools and other modern classics. Zeitgeist was one of the first purveyors of mid-century modern design here in Denver and still one of the most revered. Head to Zeitgeist for true entusiasts and pure design.

Handcrafted furniture made from solid American hardwoods is what Modern bungalow prides themselves on. For lovers of the Arts and crafts Movement, look no further than Modern Bungalow. Based on a dedication to integrity, quality, structure and materials, the Arts and Crafts Movement was founded in the early 1900’s and was a form of pure modern yet warm design, said to have influenced the great architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Modern Bungalow is a superior example and collection of the artform.

Look in your mailbox and you probably have a Pottery Barn catalog of your own! After years of appealing to the masses and opening stores across the United States, Pottery Barn is a staple among lovers of cozy and comfortable furniture with a classic American style. Think overstuffed chairs and warm wood tables and chairs. You’ll find furniture, lighting, accessories and rugs for each room of your home to make it inviting. View the assortment of fabrics available to make each piece your own.

Drive down 3rd Ave and you’ll see the glitzy, glowing chandelier in the window begging you to stop and come in. Once inside, you’ll find such an eclectic mix of furnture from custom designed sofas to Asian-inspired lounges, you’re bound to find the perfect piece for your home. Aera is also an interior design studio, so feel free to ask for help or hire them to make your house worthy of a magazine layout.

Located in the Golden Triangle, the Lighting Studio is one of several Denver Designers favorite stores when it comes to finding the perfect lighting. At first, it can be a bit overwhelming because of the enormous assortment of styles. Take your time and look around and ask questions if you don’t see what you’re looking for. Also, head upstairs to their great collection of modern furnishings including the famous European line of beds by Flou.

More expensive than the Home Depot and geared exclusively towards paint, wallpaper, art and some furniture, this is the spot where the high-end designers get their paint and supplies. You may spend a bit more, but the paint selections are great and having truly knowledgeable staff makes it a pleasure to shop there. You may even find some decorative pieces to work into your decorating.
