Denver's Best Dancing Destinations
I love the nightlife. I've got to boogie! It's not often that I want to hit the town to get my groove on. You see, I like to pretend there is a private dance floor in my den. But that's another story. After 4 years of investigating, Denver has got a dance hall for every step you take. It just takes a little searching.
Play that beat DJ
DJs are always playing the latest hits and mixin it up so you get two songs at once. You know the remixes that are always playing…..a DJ made that, silly. Many travel all over the world spinning their tunes and keeping you up all night.
The Go-Go Dancer I dream of being.
Another spot I was taken to right when I moved to Denver is the Church. The Church is like 4 clubs in one. Several different dance rooms are available depending on your mood. There is a hip-hop room, techno room, pop and the house music in the main room with the DJ. I’ve been in the VIP area upstairs and loved the view of all the dancing bodies downstairs. The coolest part of the Church is that you are dancing in a bonified Church. Beautiful architecture and something for everyone if you are in the mood to shake your tailfeather.

Hush, Hush. Keep it down now. Voices carry. Ok, really this is a nightclub in Lodo that is trying to be secret so don’t spill the beans. I don’t recall a sign, just narrow steps down a stairway to a basement like room filled with hip-hop music and lots of timbaland boots. I saw a few famous athletes but I am discreet so I won’t name names (Denver Broncos). If you don’t know how to Crank Dat Souljaboy yet, click the link below and learn. It’s only like 5 months old.

I first went to the Jet for an opening party and it was quite the swanky affair. Things have not changed too much since. I think more Denver locals go to the Jet to dance and mingle than the Hotel guests, but that must mean business is good. It’s aplace to see and be seen, if you know what I mean. So ditch the casual jeans and flip flops you may normally wear and get your little black dress or new jacket on. The DJ is good and the drinks are reasonable. For a tame dance floor, Jet will work just fine.

Beta (formerly Rise)
2001 BLAKE ST DENVER, CO 80205
It was the 4th of July weekend and we were in the Ballpark neighborhood for the fireworks disply. It was several hours before we got to see any sparks, so we went inside Rise. The Go-Go dancer inside me was just begging to get out in her white patent boots and jump up with the girls shaking their stuff and rip it up. But, alas, I settled for getting my groove on, on the Vegas like dancefloor below the Go-Go dancers above. The lighting is sexy and the patrons want to be too. I saw several scantily clad ladies so it’s a bit of a meat market. But, that said, it’s a big dancefloor and great entertainment. The outdoor patio is great for cooling off after you get all hot!
The Church
It’s almost unholy.
One of my first outings in Denver was at Vinyl and I was happy about the outdoor patio with plenty of seating and great views. As the night progressed, the DJ booth was calling our names and the music was keeping us all sweaty. This has a young crowd and I recommend it in small doses. Unless you are young and can dance and drink without getting tired and hungover. Then, by all means, go every weekend.

Live Music
I love dancing to live music because it’s spontaneous and I never know what is coming next. This is when having a partner and lessons come in handy.
The Skylark Lounge
140 S BROADWAY DENVER, CO 80209
the Skylark is one of my favorite bars in Denver, period. I like Rockabilly boys. So, that said, I really like Rockabilly bands and trying to attempt swing dancing. I have two left feet when it comes to dancing with a partner, so I usually just kind of do my own thing and listen and watch the real dancers. This is a crazy fun bar for watching the band and shaking your booty.
I have always lived so close to the Mercury that I kind of kicked myself for not going until last year. I love the organic food and intimate feeling inside. The really cool thing is the live bands that play in the upstairs dance hall! Check with the Mercury for who is playing when and definitely check out their Swing Night. They offer lessons, too. I need some for sure. The Mercury is a very quaint, locally owned Denver favorite that is unlike any other restaurant/bar/danceclub/ place I’ve ever found.

The first time I stopped at the Grizzly I was coming back from the mountains form a hiking trip and we needed food, pronto. After seeing all the pictures on the wall and the schedule of live music on the way, I vowed to go back. I’m not a huge country music fan by any means, but I have a little Cissy from Rhinestone Cowboy in me and I can scoot my boots just as well as you can. This is a super spot for live music and dancing and drinking a cold beer. Wear your cowboy boots and your big ’ole belt buckle.

I can’t honestly say I can pronounce this correctly. I saw this spot so many times hidden behind the Fillmore Auditorium I finally had to check it out. It’s a members only organization, welcoming newcomers, with 5 different major dance groups ranging from Salsa and Swing to Tango and even Gypsy! These dancers are truly experts in their field, so if you want to really learn about your dance of choice, this is the place for you.

La Rumba. I like to say it with a rolled R. RRRR. It’s a smallish Salsa club most nights of the week, so your sexy heels and flowy dress are the perfect choice. Dirty Dancing at it’s best. Friday nights, however, it turns into Lipgloss. Lipgloss is all about the latest music and trends so if you don’t have skinny jeans and pointy toe flats, you may want to go shopping first. Tons of fun any night of the week, and they offer free classes and instruction at least once a week. Check out the link for the schedule and specials.
