My first experience in Colorado was the drive from the Denver International Airport (DIA) to the city of Northglenn (it’s a few miles north of Denver). This drive can best be described as flat, dry, barren and full of tumble weeds. If you have never been to the Denver metropolitan area, you will learn that it is not in the mountains (really those Coors commercials are all misleading) but on the plains before the foothills. All the cities are generally parallel to the mountains and are called the “Front Range”. So off to Northglenn to stay with a friend.
Everything is Tan...
Everything in Northglenn is tan. There are a few gray and brown houses that sneak in but for the most part, everything is tan. It took us 20 minutes to find her house because her development was comprised of hundreds of town houses that looked exactly the same. But really, I am digressing…so what is there to do?
Sunset, 104th and Federal
Cars, cars, everywhere are cars.
After living in Europe for a few years, I was used to small cars and narrow roads. That all changes in Northglenn. Everyone drives big cars and big trucks on wide roads (someone might squash me in my VW Golf). Every business seems to cater to the car from places to change your tires to places that sell toys for your car. The funniest business I heard of is dedicated to making bras for your car (ladies, they might take custom orders if you need it).
I’m sure there are lots of things to do in Northglenn but unfortunately I never got to experience it. I was too busy dodging traffic and trying to find my friend’s townhome. Rumor has it that Northglenn has a kickass Fourth of July party….I may have to check it out while I’m getting an oil change.
