Coolest Movie Soundtracks Ever!
These are the soundtracks that make you say, "Damn, that was a great movie!"
Juno
Probably the best movie soundtrack ever. I mean, Kimya Dawson? Mott the Hoople? Bell and Sebastian? The Velvet Underground? Can’t go wrong with a line up like that!
The Royal Tenenbaums
This was a tough call, because all Wes Anderson movies have cool soundtracks. But since this one includes Nick Drake, Eliot Smith, and Nico (the German girl from the Velvet Underground’s first album), I had to go with this one.
The Harder They Come
This movie gave mainstream America its first taste of reggae. Features Jimmy Cliff (who also starred in the movie), Desmond, Dekker, and Toots and the Maytals.
Also...
You can add almost all soundtracks from Martin Scorsese films (e.g. Goodfellas) and Tarantino films to the list.
Footloose
I’ve been grooving to this one since I was in the first grade!
Pulp Fiction
You couldn’t imagine how “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” spoke to me in 1994. And how much it made me want to try cocaine.
The Assassination of Jesse James...
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis put together some amazing songs for this movie. It is 100% instrumental, but the way the songs weave in and out of your head will keep it in high rotation.
Black Orpheus
The soundtrack to the classic 1959 Brazilian film introduced mainstream America to Bossa nova.
Clueless
This was like the soundtrack to middle school as well. I got my first taste of Radio Head. I became obsessed with “Kids in America.” I fell in love with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. And I went around singing Jill Sobule’s “Supermodel.”

Garden State
So cool, Zach Braff got an Oscar for this! Includes Nick Drake’s “One of These Things First,” Coldplay’s “Don’t Panic,” and The Shins’ “New Slang,” the song that’ll change your life.
Across the Universe
After the disastrous 1970’s “Sgt. Pepper” movie, making a musical out of Beatles songs seemed like a bad idea. But director Julie Taymor managed to pull this off, and the result is a wicked movie with a killer soundtrack.
Two Volumes. Both are awesome. Lots of good soul.
i am sam
How can you not love a movie full of Beatles songs? Well, covers of Beatles songs.
ONCE
The soundtrack from beginning to end is really beautiful, vulnerable and haunting. Their voices are perfect with eachother.
Lots of great Indian music plus The Kinks. I’ll take it!
The Beach
There are some amazing songs on this soundtrack, including some favs like Moby… But I am obsessed with the song called Pure Shores by All Saints…. I need to get married to that song. Also, as crazy as this sounds, there is a song by Sugar Ray, and it is one of my favorite songs… I know, odd, but this song called, Spinning Away, simple makes any day better.
It has been years, but this soundtrack still is a favorite it my collection.
