The other day I was browsing Craigslist and saw a job posting to work in a cheese store. And I was like wow, that must be the coolest job ever. Who doesn't want to be around delicious, expensive cheeses all day long? Yummmmm. So now I'm wondering, what are the coolest sounding jobs you've come across?
Chocolate Maker
A while back I went on a tour of the Scharffen Berger chocolate factory in Berkeley, CA and it was pretty sweet (no pun intended). During the tour, I thought how awesome it would be to work in a chocolate factory. Not only do you get to have the smell of cocoa beans infiltrate your clothes, but you get to create all kinds of interesting chocolate concoctions. It’s not exactly Willy Wonka, but it sure beats crunching numbers in a cube.
I recently saw Bottle Shock and it made me want to hop on the 101, drive up to Napa and get right to work in the vineyard. Getting a tan, working with your hands, picking grapes and drinking wine all day? Yes, please.
The last time I was in San Francisco’s Financial District bike messengers were whizzing down the streets, and it looked pretty cool to be able to spend all day at one with the road and your bike. Granted you have to deal with irate taxi drivers and crazed jaywalkers, but at least you don’t have to see the inside of a boardroom.
It’s scary, it’s stressful, it’s totally fun. It’s your job as a bike messenger.
Sushi Chef
Whenever I’m at a sushi bar (which is pretty often), I always love to sit at the bar so I can watch the sushi chefs work their magic. I don’t know why, but I can literally watch a sushi chef for hours. Plus, it usually seems like they’re having a good time. I’ve definitely seen a chefs toast glasses of sake with patrons!
