Cooking Classes in Denver
I discovered cooking classes last year and I love them. They were tons of fun now I need to find the ingredients, tools, and time to use my new found skills.
Generous Servings
801 W 32nd Ave Denver, CO 80211-3123
Generous Servings is owned and operated by two sisters, Jill and Mary Brinig. Jill, an experienced barista, loves challenging her memorization skills by attempting to remember every customer’s name and favorite drink. Mary has years of experience in restaurant cooking and catering, as well as teaching people of all ages and backgrounds.
I just took the class at Generous Servings: FRESH MEXICAN COOKING
Sample menu: shrimp and avocado ceviche with homemade tortilla chips, spicy black beans and cilantro-lime rice, pork carnitas with masa tortillas and pico de gallo, cinnamon sugar sopaipillas, horchata.
Taking some of my own advice – I scheduled this class with a friend and it was so much fun to do it together. We are going to schedule a night where we make some of the recipes together.
Previous Classes
Indian Inspired Cooking - Sample menu: chicken tikka masala, palak paneer (spinach with homemade cheese), basmati rice pilaf, naan, curry with potatoes, cauliflower, peas, and chickpeas, red lentil dal.
This is my favorite so far. I think I may have to go to this class again.
The Zen of Chopping Knife Skills - Sample menu: caramelized onion bruschetta, avocado-citrus salad, minestrone soup, apple crumble.
I can now cut a mango instead of butchering it like I used to do.
Chicken course – I don’t have a sample menu for this one but there was a great stir fry chicken recipe that I still make and that my family loves.
’They will give you one glass of wine to start out with but if you want more than that you need to bring your own. Mondo Vino is just down the street and the staff is super helpful.
Just found out last night that Mondo VINO will give you a 10% discount if you tell them you getting the wine for a cooking class pairing – super cool. Did I say I love the staff here?

My instructor bought most of the food from Sunflower Market. I’m still searching to the exotic ingredients used in the Indian Inspired Cooking Class.

This is the market they recommend using to get the ingredients from the Mexican class. I will have to check it out. One of the hardest things for me about cooking classed is finding the ingredients later. They just don’t offer it all at a typical supermarket.

Markets to get the ingredients
I got a cooking stone from them and it works great for nann, naan, nan however you spell that. I made them at home once since the class and it was a lot of work. I wonder how many other times I will do it.

This was recommended to me by Guide spotter, Birdling. I will have to check it out. On top of that a friend of mine is taking the sushi class tonight.

Mexican Coke
For the pork tacos from the cooking class – one of the ingredients is ‘Mexican Coke’ Apparently there is more caramel in Mexican coke than coke made in the US and you can get Mexican coke pretty easily in the US.
I like coke – if Mexican coke has less fructose corn syrup and more caramel – I may convert even if I never make the recipe again.
Pepsi Throwback
Pepsi created a drink using sugar instead of High fructose corn syrup. I tried it once and it was yummy. I have hard time finding Pepsi throwback but I think it is a great idea.
I love their lunch buffet. Now I can make my own Nann and Paneer, woo hoo.

This place is attached to the cooking kitchen. I picked up some of their cupcakes to give my volunteer movers. They were great. I think I can take a class on how to bake at high altitude, although I’m not much of a baker.

I took my little sister here for a Christmas Cookie baking class. Everyone was put into different groups with their “child” and we each learned how to bake several types of cookies and at the end of class, did some decorating and came home with a whole basket full to share! It was so much fun. Now my sister looks forward to baking cookies every year.
