When you have more money than taste.... Each year the boat owners of Orange County pimp out their million dollar yachts, Christmas style for the annual boat parade through the harbor. 2008 marked the 100th year of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. Here are some of the gaudiest yachts, sailboats and kayaks that were on display from this year's event.

This is the only bar on Balboa Island. Come here for some drinks after the boat parade ends. Try the free popcorn.

Get a room at this hotel on the water to watch the parade. But book early. Rooms overlooking the water during the week of the boat parade sell out by August.

The best way to watch the parade is from the water. If you don’t own a boat or know some rich people to mooch off of, rent a party cruiser from this place. For $100/hour you can get a pretty sweet putt-putt boat that will seat 12 people.

Ha-ha. I was actually born in none other than Hoag hospital and still have family down there. Those pictures bring back memories . . . of being very confused! For a small child, the Disney Light Parade is somehow immediately understandable; standing on the docks watching kooky white people float by in a tacky display of wealth and resources was unnerving . . .
