Surviving a Chicago Winter
Baby, it's cold outside! (Well, if it's not yet, it will be.) Chicago winters are brutal and if you aren't used to them, you will probably want to die. But here are some tips to get you through winter from someone who has spent a lot of winters in the cold, snowy Midwest.
Fireplaces Are Key
If you don’t have one at home, the go to a bar or restaurant that does. Not only will you stay toasty warm, but they set the mood for romance…
You can find big crackling fireplaces at any of these great places:
A steakhouse with woodburning fireplaces to keep you cozy and warm.

This place has an “Irish cottage” feel with old Celtic art, a piano, and a woodburning fireplace that you can warm up at.

If you’re craving a coffee, this Starbucks on the corner of North and Wells has a big fireplace in the middle with couches and comfy chairs all around it.

If you have a car...
You’ll definately need one of these. Especially if you park outside. Brushing the 2 feet of snow off of your car, and then scaping the ice off of your window will be the worst part of your morning… but it can only get better after that.
You can find a snow scaper/brush here if you don’t already have one.

Get a Slanket!
Yes, this is the new thing. Blankets are great, but they have restrictions. You can’t move your arms as long as they are under a blanket… so if you’re wanting to eat popcorn or make Guidespot guides, you’re out of look. Unless you get a Slanket! It’s a blanket that you WEAR! Stay warm and go about your business. What a novel idea.
You can buy one (or more) at their website !
(The slanket is all over guidespot! See it at Ridiculous & Unnecessary Products & Inventions which is a very awesome guide, if I do say so myself.)
If you’re going to be driving, prepare for slippery roads. The city is pretty good about plowing right away, but there are a lot of roads in Chicago and you never know what you’ll run into. SNOW TIRES are very necessary.
I found this guide after I made mine, but it’s got some more great tips for dressing for the winter!
Cuddle
If you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, get one. Or just find a cuddle buddy amongst your friends. If you aren’t good with people, try a pet. Dogs and cats make good cuddlers as well.
Note: Naked cuddling will keep you warmer because you will exchange body heat.
You could host a cuddle party and get a cuddle train going like the people above. Don’t they look happy?
There are already 106 people just waiting to sign up… maybe you could charge $5 per cuddle session.
(In case you don’t know how.)
Get a warm coat, hat, scarf, and gloves.
Just because it’s freezing doesn’t mean you can’t look good. Outerwear is one of my favorite things to buy! (And if you want to keep your tootsies warm, invest in a pair of Uggs. They are heave for your feet.)
You can buy a nice, warm, stylish coat here.

Target is a great place to buy cute hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens to go with your new coat.

Warm yourself up with a strong drink
Either of these whiskey bars will do the trick.
They are supposed to have good Mexican food too. So if you’re cold, eat some jalapenos.

Owned by Cindy Crawford’s husband, Rande Gerber, you’ll find pretty decor, pretty faces, and perfected martinis. Oh, and whiskey.

Go somewhere that isn't cold
The Bahamas will be warm and sunny this winter, and thanks to our terrible economy you should be able to get great deals on vacation and cruise packages.
