Funky City Art In Chicago
Some of the world's most inspiring artist's decided to make their art in the city of Chicago. Without visiting a museum, one can stroll down the city streets and view funky, and beautiful art. Take a look...
Picasso's Cow
Some say this sculpture, by Picasso, resembles a cow. I can see a cow! I can also see a one eyed monster from the black lagoon.
I guess it’s all in the interpretation.
Yard Art
In most parks in the Lincoln Park neighborhoods, or in Old Town, you can find animal sculptures. Careful, you may not want to ride them. They won’t travel very far!
Millennium Park
Grab your friends or loved ones and relax on the grass in the hot summer evenings, while checking out the Chicago skyline.
This funky outdoor amphitheater in Millennium Park, allows you to see the Chicago skyline and enjoy a performance, outdoors.

Covering more than 24 acres in the heart of the city, Millennium Park is a stunning civic center and public open space, filled with architectural and artistic masterpieces. Crafted by famous architect Frank Gehry, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion's towering, flowing form stands at the heart of the park, holding free performances by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus and other groups. Major pieces of public art in the park include the Crown Fountain, where digitally enlarged faces of Chicagoans are displayed on 50-foot-high columns layered by flowing water, and Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate, nicknamed "The Bean." Also holding the McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the park is on the northern end of Grant Park, right in the heart of the Loop and next to Lake Michigan.

The Bean
Another one of my favorites! The bean (also known as Cloud Gate) shows you the Chicago skyline from another perspective.
It’s fun to stand by the bean and check yourself out. One minute you look distorted and very far away, and the next, you are standing underneath the bean, looking up at your reflection.
Miro's Chicago
Miro’s “Chicago”
I haven’t quite figured this one out yet. It looks like a woman with a fork on her head. Hmmm funky funky.
The Wise Lions
Two iron lions stand outside in front of The Art Institute of Chicago. They guard the entrance to the museum and have the best seat in the city!
Take a good look at these lions, but don’t stare too long. They might decide to jump down one day.
Or Picasso's Woman?
This is a cow? It could also be interpreted from the backside of the sculpture as, a woman. Maybe this was his lover?
The Flamingo
Located at the Federal Center Plaza, the Flamingo stands 53 feet high. This is modern art at it’s best and adds a splash of color to the high buildings of downtown Chicago.
By Alexander Calder
1974
The Moose
This funky metal moose is located off of Michigan Ave by the Chicago Tribune building.
You can ride this moose and look cool by taking a picture of yourself on it! Ok, you may not look cool, but the sculpture itself is!
Large Faces
These faces spout water out of their mouths and into the puddle of water below, inside Millennium Park.
As I watch the images of human expression, I wander, “How did those people stand there that long while filming this without laughing?”
Iron Men
This is by far my favorite outdoor installation in Grant Park. For some reason it was controversial and people were scared of the headless, walking torsos.
Don’t be afraid! Instead, take a walk through the torsos, they are beautiful and create a feeling of how humans have shut off all personal interaction.
Magdalena Abakanowicz’s permanent installation, Agora, features 106 headless cast-iron figures, each 9 feet tall and weighing 1,500 pounds.
The Blob
Personally, I do not like this sculpture. It looks like a white blob of melting ice cream, or something I drew in first grade.
I believe it was made in the 1970’s. Obvious?
