Can You Remember the Last Time You Bought a CD?
Does anyone honestly still buy CDs? I think the last one I bought was at Sam Goody's circa 1998. Can you remember the last CD you bought? If so, add your awesome purchase to the list.
Dead Kennedys: Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death
Purchased at Sam Goody’s in 1998.
Feist: The Reminder???
I actually can’t remember the last time I bought a CD— although there’s a strong possibility it could have been the last Feist album. But I did recently sell about 3/4 of my CD collection. There was some separation anxiety I have to admit, it was worth it in the end. I ended up with a good amount of cash and a TON of extra space on my bookshelf.
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals
I have NO idea when I stopped buying CDs but it feels like eons ago. So, when Ryan Adams and the Cardinals came out with their new album, I thought to myself “hmmm, I love Ryan so much, I actually really want to hold his CD in my hands.” So I went on Amazon.com and purchased the CD. Which was strangely a bit cheaper than purchasing it digitally on iTunes (how does that even work?).
It arrived in my mailbox and I was happy….until I realized my CD drive on my computer no longer functioned. And I had NO other CD playing devices in my apartment. Wow. Are CDs that extinct already?

Awesome Lightening Bolt Infused CD Stripper
Annoying, hard-to-open CD and DVD Covers Be Gone!!
This is another product I don’t have much use for anymore.
Metallica - St. Anger
I think that the Black Album was my first CD so it seems fitting that this would be my last. Also worth noting the Black Album was the last good album by Metallica.
Goody's Got it!!
An excellent, now defunct, music store located next to Hot Topix at the mall.
I Bought Pink- which, really wasn't that long ago.
There’s something about holding the CD in your hands, unwrapping it, looking through the jacket, etc. I LOVE THAT. Even thought it’s inconvenient, I really enjoy the process of buying and owning a new CD.
The Early Years--Aretha Franklin
Approximately 4 years ago. Okay, I may have had iTunes by that point, but here’s how it went down: I was a kick-ass nanny at the time, one of my 5 jobs, for 2 sisters (9 and 10). They looooooved me b/c I was kinda crazy and fun (but totes responsible, mostly, and we are still very close today!)
So for whatever reason, I got the Aretha version of “Walk on By” in my head and COULD NOT STOP singing it. I’d sing it in public with them, walking down the streets of Brooklyn. They were sort of embarrassed but also in awe of me (or so I tell myself). Anyway, after days of this, we’re sitting in their house, working on homework and dinner is on the stove. I turn off the burner, walk into where they’re doing homework and say, “Stop doing homework. No really, STOP. We need to go find that Aretha Franklin cd NOW. I need to hear that song.” They stared at me, like, is this girl for real? “No seriously, put on your coats, we’re going.”
Off we went to the CD store. We love that story. :) Best. nanny. ever.
