I love this theater for seeing all kinds of loud, foot stompin music from alternative to punk-rock. You can literally feel the floor shake beneath you as the bass player pounds on his guitar. If you want to dance, be prepared to sweat and get close to those around you, as the dance floor isn’t too big. But what’s sexier than getting sweaty together? A large bar can be hard to find a drink at, but be patient and ready to talk a little louder than usual when placing your order over the amplified sounds. After the concert, the attached pizza shop, Marquis Pizza, sells outrageous slies of New York style pizza. The couple that dances together, stays together.

Too many of us forget how saturated Denver really is with culture and arts, so be a participant and have a creative date night at the Denver center for Performing Arts. I love the size of the theater and have always had a splendid time. It’s location downtown allows for several before or after theater eats and drinks. A definite, date-do.

Known for it’s independent films, upstairs bar, and amazing architecture, the Mayan is a great theater to see a movie. Do be aware the seats are a bit small and the theaters are not your blockbuster, run of the mill complexes where you’d go see Ghostbusters 8. This is meant for small audiences to have an experience. Order a cocktail and feel free to bring it into the movie, but remember bathroom breaks do interupt your fellow movie watchers! First rate films that play at the Sundance Film Festival are always shown at the Mayan, so you can tell all your friends you saw it first.

Before or after your movie at the Mayan, you must stop into the Hornet for dinner and/or drinks. Teriffic, satisfying American meals with a flair for interesting ingredients are abound on this menu. There is soemthing for everyone from fish n’ chips, fried chicken, mac n’ cheese or hummus and salads. Even cottage cheese as a side rather than fries for those watching their calories.
