So, the term recession proof? That doesn't apply here. I was let go from my job about two months ago, and still haven't found another one. Being in the house all day is driving me insane. There are only so many movies you can watch, check craigslist so many times, and update your facebook status, until someone brings to light that you change your status (literally) every 5 minuets. Until I found a handy-dandy way of occupying that time. I have become very fond of is sculpting with clay. I was downstairs in our basement, my boyfriend is a painter, and was snooping around his art supplies for something to do. I came across two boxes of clay and a bunch of tools. I thought, ‘this can’t be that hard.’ So, I googled sculpting with clay and came across just how to use the tools I have found. As I was sculpting, I realized one day that 4 hours had passed when I would otherwise be doing something mundane, or watching ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ for the 100th time. I ended up with a clay bird. Then I baked it (usually 200 degrees for abut 10-20 minuets depending on the size of the piece), painted it, and mounted it to a piece of wood and ‘huzza’ I had a new found hobby. I put the piece up on a few of my blogs and found that people would actually pay me money for my tiny bird sculptures. Now, I’m not saying here that you should run out buy all the tools and start making things to sell; but find your inner artist as you have all of the time in the world to (until you find a job). Where does the button come in? We, Chris and I, started making tiny buttons. We’d make them, bake them and then paint and draw on them. I even attached them to little pieces of board to make them look professional. Some of these cute little kitschy buttons that have forks on them, some have faces, some look like they jumped out of the 80s. So, there you have it. A fun and easy way to bid your time during this recession. Or until you find a job that you can hate once again.
