If you are interested in the historic past, present and future of our quaint, little town. Our group was formed in March of 1973 by concerned citizens that wanted to preserve, protect and teach others about our history. We currently protect and maintain the Burton Railroad Depot and the Mt. Zion church. The Depot is here in town and the Mt. Zion church is just a few miles northeast of Burton, out off of FM 1948.

Burton is just about halfway between Houston and Austin, Texas. But if you blink when driving by on Hwy 290 you just might miss us.

Alot of history and a vibrant community

Burton was established in 1870 when it became a terminal on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. We actually have a much older past with other local communities forming in the 1830’s, first the Kerr Settlement and then Union Hill.  Union Hill pretty much dried up when the railroad came through Burton and all the folks moved the few miles to be closer to town.
