A pastafarian's guide to the best Italian restaurants Houston has to offer.
With the Euro being so high, a trip to Italy might not be on your budget this year (or in my case, anytime between now and when buying a lottery ticket actually pays off), but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some delicious Italian cuisine here in the good ‘ole U S of A.

Prima Pasta
Open since 1989, Prima Pasta is one of my absolute favorite places to get Italian food in Houston. Owned and operated by an authentic Italian family, Prima Pasta offers some of the most delicious, reasonably-priced Italian dishes inside the loop.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is warm and inviting – a perfect place for the family OR a romantic date. You can either dine in or get your food to go, with savory dishes made from the freshest ingredients. I called in an order a few weeks ago, only to discover that the dish I was ordering was no longer on the menu. The staff was so kind; they made the dish for me anyway. Now THAT’S great service.
Prima Pasta has both individual sized portions as well as family portions, and even offers the “best lasagna in town” for only five dollars. I would also recommend trying some of their authentic Italian pizzas. You’ll be glad you did!
Damian’s is the perfect place to enjoy a scrumptious Italian dinner while out and about in Downtown Houston. In the heart of downtown, Damian’s even offers shuttle service to the theater! One of the neatest parts about dining here is the “Chef’s Table”. The Chef’s Table is a private booth, tucked away in the corner of the main kitchen. It’s a great way to see the Chef at work, and makes for a great date or party idea! The Chef’s Table can accommodate up to eight people.
Houston is home to the original Carrabba’s Italian Grill. While a little on the expensive side, Carrabba’s sure is worth the extra cash. I have never been disappointed with a dish from their menu.
Looking for great, authentic Italain food, and in large quantities? Buca Di Beppo is the place for you. Roughly translated to “Joe’s Basement”, Buca Di Beppo serves delicious family-sized portions. With themed rooms – including a pope room – and thousands of vintage photos donning the walls, eating here is more than great food…it’s an experience. Whether you have a huge family, lots of friends, or just a Texas-sized appetite, Buca Di Beppo is one of the best places to enjoy great Italian food in the lone star state.
Any restaurant that has a live tree growing through the middle of it is alright by me, and such is the case with Michaelangelo’s. Moderately priced and extremely delicious, Michaelangelo’s is a great choice for Italian dining with great food AND a great ambiance. Enjoy delicious Italian as you dine beneath the branches of a tree that has been there since the restaurant’s opening in 1993. There’s a reason why this place has been on Houston’s best restaurant list for years.
