Bukowski's

50 Dalton St, Boston, MA 02115

If you’re looking for a good brew, go no further. Named after author Charles Bukowski, it’s small, it can get loud and they only take cash. On the flip side, there are 99 bottles of beer on the wall plus 15 more on tap. There is great flair [read: obscure art and graffiti] on the walls and the best sweet potato fries I’ve had since living down south. If you’re looking for a neighborhood dive, you’ll find it in Bukowski’s.

The Best Breakfast Sandwich

Bagel Rising

1243 COMMONWEALTH AVE ALLSTON, MA 02134

Breakfast sandwich lovers look no further. Truth be told, I don’t even like bagels but I love Bagel Rising. On the weekends this place draws a crowd that has the line snaking out the door and down the block but believe me, it is worth the wait. They use the freshest ingredients and are always more than happy to customize your sandwich. Yum!

Silvertone Bar & Grill

69 Bromfield St, Boston, MA 02108

Vintage paraphernalia line the walls of this financial district haunt. Known for their homemade mac & cheese (delicious) and the extensive wine list that has a unique pricing policy (they only charge $10 over cost). For many Bostonians this place is a frequent stop on the way home or for lunch. While it can get crowded and the wait for a table often exceeds an hour, the friendly service and exceptional food and drink prove worth the wait. You should also know that this funky little place makes their own raspberry vodka…perfect with soda water and a lime!

Stanza dei Sigari

28 PRINCE ST BOSTON, MA 02113

Formally a 1920’s speakeasy, this hip cigar bar is snuggled just next door and downstairs from Caffe Vittoria. Stansa dei Sigari notes that they are “Boston’s ultimate cigar bar, alive with all the mystery and glamour of its original ‘underground’ betting, including an immortal sense of forbidden pleasure and complete escape.” The staff is ready and willing to help you pick out the perfect cigar whether this is your first cigar or you are an aficionado. They also have a long list of amazing hookah flavors to choose from. After a night of dinner and drinks, this is the perfect place to come and wind down while listening to some great music and enjoying the eclectic atmosphere.

Casa Romero

30 Gloucester St, Boston, MA 02115

Hidden in an alley off of the famed Newbury Street, chances are many aren’t sure where to look. From the minute you enter the door of this establishment you won’t believe your eyes. Bustling wait staff and the hum of chatter and laughter greet you when you first arrive. The fare is upscale traditional Mexican and the margaritas are more than you could ever ask for in such a humble drink. Tucked away between Newbury Street and Commonwealth Ave, hiding behind L’Espalier a visit to Casa Romero will not disappoint.

Hello, sarahfaith- I’m from Philadelphia, and it was cool to read about some less-well-known places in another great city. Bukowski’s in particular sounds great. I also have never had sweet potato fries, but they certainly sound good…
