Boston's Biggest Annoyances
Listen. I love Boston. But, like every relationship, those things that start out as "quirks" eventually become annoying. What are your biggest pet peeves about Boston? What bugs you the most?
The bars close at 2 a.m.!
Massachusetts law requires that all alcohol service end by 2 a.m., leaving late-night revelers in the dust. Sure, you can go back to your house to continue partying, but this early curfew has also resulted in the creation of underground, money-making operations that cater to those still looking for a scene. To curb this activity, Operation Party Time (yes, that’s really what it’s called) steps in and these after-hours gatherings are busted by police officers, who confiscate DJ equipment and alcohol and arrest organizers, bartenders, and doormen and charge them with disorderly conduct.
Maybe it’s time to consider keeping the bars open a little longer?
College Kids
College kids are everywhere in Boston. Once upon a time I would have loved that the city was so youthful and fun. Now that I’m “old,” I hate that I can’t go anywhere without having obnoxious college kids getting in the way. I live for the summers when they all go home!!

The driving
Boston is an old city. And, unlike the neat grid of New York City, the quirks of Boston’s roads are many: one way streets; weird intersections; traffic circles…everything that could possibly confuse a driver is thrown at you in our fair city.
Part of the mess is due to The Big Dig. Thankfully, we’re at the tail end of that disaster, and we’ll have a whole new set of roadways to get used to.
And just to add to the aggravation? The pedestrians who cross in front of your car without a care. (Or a thank you.)
Obnoxious sports fans
OK, I admit, I thought this gag was funny. And, I do love me my Boston sports teams. But is it just me, or are Boston fans the most obnoxious around? Is it my imagination or are they the drunkest and crudest at any sporting event?
One Word
“Bahston.” Enough said? Yep.
