During the summer, when the huge population of college students vacates Boston (for the most part), you're safe from the late teen/early twenties crowd that probably annoy most people who are in their late 20's and over 30. But what happens when summer is over? How does your social life adust? Where are the best spots to party?

Tip: Seek out hotel bars

Boston’s beautiful and historic hotels are also home to some hidden gems within: great bars.  More low-key and upscale than regular bars, hotel bars are a great option when you’re looking to escape the younger, rowdier set.

City-Bar is inside of the Lenox Hotel.

City-Bar

65 Exeter St, Boston, MA 02116

Tucked inside the hip Lenox Hotel, City-Bar is known for its martinis, classy vibe, and beautiful people. The lack of televisions and loud music make it a perfect spot for having an actual conversation while enjoying a stiff drink in a more adult – yet quite chic – atmosphere.

Tip: Seek out live music

…but choose your live music carefully.  Live pianists, jazz, and acoustic guitar are all create a more mellow, sophisticated atmosphere than, say, a rock band, and almost guarantee that your fellow patrons are there for a fun yet non-raucous night out.

The decor inside The Beehive is decidedly un-collegelike.

Beehive Restaurant the

541 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02116

Great live music (from jazz to cabaret) and the funky boho atmosphere lend themselves to the Beehive’s catering not to students, but rather to hip, cool young adults who want a great night out.

Tip: Go Expensive

You’re not going to find college students or young 20-somethings hanging out where they have to drop $15/drink. And while you might not necessarily want to spend that much either, it might be worth it to get away from the younger crowd.

Bar 10

10 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02116

Also a hotel bar, Bar 10, seems to attract a somewhat more mature crowd. Located in the Westin at Copley, the atmosphere is sophisticated but cool and the drinks are nice and strong, making them well worth your money.

Bar 10 may look a little cold when empty, but once it’s filled with people, the atmosphere completely changes and it just looks cool and fun.

Wait, shouldn’t this guide just have a picture of your house? I mean, you don’t leave your living room once you hit 30, right?

Great guide!! I actually just made a similar one for mid-20s. When you’re done with college and the younger age group, but aren’t yet ready to start hanging with the 30-somethings. It’s tough!
