Straight, Full, and Blonde. How Do You Like Yours?
Um, I have to wash my hair? A totally valid excuse for not going out on a Saturday night, right? If you have the right kinds of shampoos, you might find yourself actually wanting to wash your hair whenever you can. Here are some of the shampoos I use on a regular basis. Yes, my shower and bathroom closet are stuffed full of shampoos and conditioners. If you live in Boston, it's super easy to get your hands on all the good stuff. And you might even find a deal or two if you know where to look. Straight, full, and blonde. That's how I like my hair.
John Frieda Sheer Blonde
Because I was always taught that I’m supposed to take care of my hair after spending lots of money to get it highlighted (thanks, Mom!). I love Sheer Blonde by John Frieda because not only does it protect my color, it actually makes my blonde hair blonder. Noticably so.
I use the volume enhancing shampoo and conditioner because my hair is in constant need of serious volume.
Rusk Purify
Oh wait, I have lots of hair issues. Sometimes my hair gets ridiculously dry. But if I go a day without washing it, it gets nasty oily. And there’s nothing I hate more than that. Rusck’s Purify shampoo allows me to go a lot longer without shampooing my hair. This shampoo contains tea tree oil, which even though it’s an oil, actually helps manage oils (put tea tree oil on zits and they’ll go away in no time!). And it smells nice and minty fresh too!
It usually costs about $9.99, so more expensive than the average bottle of shampoo, but so so worth it if you tend to get oily hair!
CVS recently had a whole makeover and sells TONS of salon quality products. Which means you can actually get most of the shampoos listed in this guide at CVS. They don’t usually go on sale or anything, but you can sometimes use your CVS extra bucks on them.
What I’m trying to say it, CVS rocks. They have shampoos that cost .99 and they have shampoos that cost $22.00. Anything you and your hair want, you got!!

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo
Hi Bumble and Bumble. You’re super expensive, so obviously I am deeply in love with you. I definitely can’t afford you, but whenever I’m staying at my aunt’s house, I use you and get obsessed with my hair (not to mention, my aunt’s water is SO much better than mine…and we live 5 minutes away. Don’t get it).
How expensive is expensive? Well, 8 oz. of this glorious shampoo generally costs $20. So that means, the shampoo conditioner combo would cost me $40, which I think is a little bit ridiculous. Especially when I can buy shampoo for $3.99 at CVS. Oh and they do sell Bumble and Bumble at CVS too, but it’s still $20. Sadness.
Pantene Ice Shine
Again, I’m just a sucker for good marketing. Ice Shine? I don’t even know why, but that sounds SO appealing to me. I feel like if I use Ice Shine on my hair, my hair will be super healthy and shiny and refreshed. So I bought it, used it, and actually love it.
Pantene has a bad name. But I think it’s really good stuff. Especially the ice shine. It totally refreshes my hair and makes it feel so healthy.
Matrix Sleek
I fell in love with Matrix Sleek in college and still use it today. It can get a little heavy on my hair, so I can’t use it all the time but when I want my hair to look super sleek and shiny for an evening, I love it. And it also smells quite fabulously; kind of citrus-like.
It’s also worth taking a trip to Sally Beauty. Anyone can shop there and you can get special discounts if you join their little club. They have tons of “generic” shampoos. Shampoos that are exactly like the ones you see here (same ingredients), but are much cheaper since they are generic. It always specifies on the bottle what shampoos they’re mimicking.

Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight
I’m a sucker for a good package. And Herbal Essences did an awesome job on their semi-new line of shampoo and hair care products. Obviously my eye went right to the pink packaging, and what do you know? The pink bottles hold exactly the potion my hair nees. STRAIGHTNESS.
I have an obsession with keeping my hair straight. And so I’m definitely willing to buy any product that says it’s going to help. And Herbal Essences’ Dangerously Straight definitely helps straighten my hait. And it’s in a pretty bottle. Woot!
Bed Head Dumb Blonde
I know, I know, I hate the name too. I might be blonde, but I’m not dumb. It’s all in good fun though. And these shampoo and conditioner bottles are totally cute too. Allegedly the shampoo protects your hair color. It’s kind of hard to notice something like that, but I do know that I love the tropical scent! I’m a big Bead Head fan all around.
Target has most of the non salon quality shampoos, and a huge selection at that. And the prices are amazing! Like a lot better than CVS. Unfortunately, thre aren’t any Targets right in Boston, but it’s not too hard to get to the Somerville or Watertown Targets.

If you’re lucky like me then you have a friend who works in the hair care industry. And she takes you to CB Sullivan whenever you want. And at CB Sullivan you can get all the salon-quality products for 50% off. Which is an absolutely amazing deal and life (and hair) saver.
Oh, you don’t have a friend who can get you discounts? Sorry. You should find one though.

Ojon Thickening Shampoo
Ojon Thickening Shampoo I’ve actually only used at my parents’ house. Because when I went to take a shower, it was in the bathtub. And I’m a sucker for any hair product with the word “thickening” in it. And um, this stuff thickens. Like crazy. I think I was in love with my hair after using this stuff. But it costs something like $22, so not really a shampoo I can buy on a regular (or otherwise) basis.
What does Ojon mean? The people of beautiful hair. How can you resist?
Victoria's Secret So Sexy Voluminizing
I have a love hate with Victoria’s Secret So Sexy shampoo and conditioner. On the one hand, it really gives my hair a ton of volume. And it also smells quite nice. On the other hand, the scent of it can be totally overpowering. And sometimes I find myself feeling incredibly sick from the scent of my own hair. I feel like that lady who put on WAY too much perfume and disgusts everyone within a mile radius. All from my shampoo.
So Sexy usually costs $10 per bottle, but Victoria’s Secret stores and the website are always offering crazy good deals, so you should never really have to actually pay that much.
When you think of Victoria’s Secret, shampoo and hair care products probably aren’t the first things that come to your mind. But VS has some amazing ones, so next time you’re there, check out the body stuff. Or just go to their website and go on an online shopping spree. They always offer awesome deals, so make sure to sign up for their e-mails.

Stock Up On Shampoo
You can never have too much! I mean, you’re always going to have to wash your hair, right? And it’s healthy for your hair if you keep switching your shampoo up. So make all these Boston beauty stops and keep your hair looking so fresh and so clean.
