Did Someone Say Print is Dead? Then Where Did All These Magazines Come From?
I have an addiction. Sure, it's not overly dangerous, but it's probably killing a lot of trees and causing my room to look a bit of a mess. I have an addiction to magazines. All kinds of magazines. And trust me, there are TONS of different kinds. Who says print is dead?
Lucky Magazine
I refuse to be emabarrassed that I get Lucky magazine in the mail every month. Yes, Lucky is a magazine entirely devoted to shopping. Yes, I can’t afford a good majority of the stuff featured in Lucky. And yes, it’s basically like a big tease every month.
But I love it. It makes me see what I could have (if I were rich). And it makes me see how the other side lives. And in every issue they have some bargain shopping ideas. YAY. Not to mention, giveaways. Enter the giveaways and you can get stuff for free. That’s reason to subscribe alone.
CVS is obviously filled with magazines. Of course, you’ll probably mainly find the mainstream magazines in CVS. Tons of celebrity dirt plus the basic cooking mags, women’s mags, and men’s mags. But since CVS’s are everywhere, you’ll never be far from a large selection of magazines!

The New Yorker
It’s a huge accomplishment for me when I finish one New Yorker magazine before the next one arrives. They seem to come so quickly, though it really is just once a week. Talk of the Town is obviously my favorite part, but I make an effort to read each issue. Because they make me feel smarter. And allow me to participate in more conversations with all kinds of people.
The above image is that of one of my favorite New Yorker covers ever. I’d actually really love the frame version to hang in my apartment. How cute! New Yorker covers are the best.
How I feel a lot of the time. And yes, I do have to include a Lolcat in every one of my guides. Plus, he’s reading Bob Appetit. How cute is that? Get in the kitchen, Kitteh!
Calling all Martha Stewart wanna-bes who can’t quite follow along with the Martha Stewart Living magazine. Everyday Food contains much simpler, but still really awesome recipes.
I love it because most of the recipes only have a few ingredients and they all show nutritional information. There are also really cute and helpful “how-to” sections. And you can still say you cooked a Martha Stewart recipe!
Whoe Foods has magazines? Yes. They have a few non-mainstream magazines, plus some local goodies, like Boston magazine. For the most part, all of the magazines Whole Foods carry fit the Whole Foods image. Like Martha Stewart’s Body and Soul. Of course a Whole Foods shopper would want to read that! They have lots of healthy eating and vegetarian magazines. And for some reason, I always notice that they carry Ad Busters, probably because not a lot of stores do.

If you live in Boston, you’ll probably want to read Boston magazine. Sometimes it gets a bit elitest and it makes me feel bad I’m not the “typical” rich Bostonian. But otherwise, I love reading about the city I love, learning about new shops and restaurants, and seeing pictures from past events.
Even if I moved away from Boston, I’d still probably want to subscribe to Boston magazine so I could see what I was missing while I was away. And be sad about it.
Come and Get It! Magazines in Boston.
You can get all my favorite magazines in locations around Boston. So go and check them out and discover some new ones while you’re at it!
Allegedly this Borders has the biggest magazine selection of anywhere. And I totally believe it because yes, it’s huge.
It has every magazine you could ever want, plus a ton you had no idea even existed. Basically you could spent the entire day browsing Border’s magazines before you even get to the books. I try to stay away from this Borders because I know I will end up spending ridiculous amounts of money on magazines I don’t have time to read.

Bon Appetit
Bon Appetit is one of my favorite cooking magazines. I mean, just look at the cover. How are you not drooling?!?! (OK, vegetarians, you’re excused). Some of ther recipes on Bon Appetit are more on the complicated side, but the writing is so good that they’re pretty easy to follow along with.
Keep a copy of Bon Appetit on your coffee table if you want to impress your guests. The only problem is that they might actually ask you to cook for them. But don’t worry, with Bon Appetit, it will be easy!
Wired
Want to look smart in a totally tech dweeb kind of way? I do. You might not know this about me, but I love reading up on the latest gadgets and Silicon Valley happenings. Sure, some of the articles are right over my head, but for the most part, I learn a ton and feel like a smarter person after reading Wired.
Plus, come on. Steve Carell is on the cover. Other notable covers that sucked me into reading even more? Martha Stewart!!! Julia Allison. And soo many more. Wired knows how to get an audience.
I am in love with Brookline Booksmith. They are an indie lovers dream. And since I love all things indie, you can find me hanging out at the Booksmith quite often. You definitely won’t find the mainstream magazines here and instead will find…wait for it…indie magazines. Surprise surprise, right?
I love browsing their selection because many of the mags at Booksmith are mags I’ve never even heard of before. Lots of crafting mags (like ReadyMade), artsy magazines, and writing magazines. For something different, check out the Brookline Booksmith. But you’ll probably be there for a while because the whole store is pretty fabulous.

Martha Stewart Living
Hi, my name is Susie and I am a Martha Stewart addict. Duh. I read each issue of Martha Stewart Living cover to cover, even though I have absolutely no intentions of making most of the stuff inside. I mean, I love the recipes, but I’m not really that into building my own bedroom furniture or constructing luxury bird feeders.
But put a few pictures of Martha’s dogs on the cover or within the pages and ya got me. Actually, just put Martha’s name on it and I’m SO in.
Barnes and Noble obviously has a large magazine selection as well. While not quite as huge as the Downtown Crossing Borders, you’ll still be able to find pretty much anything you’re looking for here.
And since this Barnes and Noble is located in the Prudential, you have about a million reasons to go. While you’re waiting for your table at Cheesecake Factory (60-120 minute wait), go upstairs to Barnes and Noble and check out the magazines. It’s just as far as your little buzzer will let you go anyway.

Inc. Magazine
Inc. is filled with smart young entrepreneurs who are doing stuff. Therefore, Inc. motivates me. When I see 22 year olds building awesome businesses and doing stuff, that makes me say, “Wait, why am I 26 and not doing as much as them??” And then I get up off my butt and do stuff.
And one day, oh yes, one day, I will be in Inc. magazine. You can mark my words. And of course, I’d be happy to give you my autograph. Thank you, Guidespot, for helping me make my way to Inc.
