The Bar is Closing, But I've Got the Munchies in Boston
The bar is closing and you're forced to go home. Or are you? You're feeling a bit hungry after all that drinking and you know there's not much in your apartment's fridge besides a hot pocket or two. Boston isn't really known for it's late night spots and it can be difficult to find a bite to eat past the bar closings. But, if you know where to go, you can find the late night gems. And we're not talking about places open until midnight. We're talking about the true late night spots. Some are until 3:00 a.m. and some 24 hours. Many of these restaurants you wouldn't be caught dead in during the daylight. But at 2:00 a.m. who are you to be picky? Just don't blame me for how you're feeling in the morning.
Because of it’s close proximity to tons of popular bars, Little Stevies is a hot spot for late night. I’m not sure who goes here during the daytime or why you would ever choose to get pizza here for dinner, but at 2:00 a.m. this pizze is seriously amazing.
The crowd is always a bit strange and you might want to stay close to your friends (I would not go here alone!). I also wouldn’t use the bathrooms and would even be a bit wary about sitting at the booths.
Also, the parmesan cheese and hot pepper flakes are chained to the counter. Enough said.

Pizzetta is another one of those places you probably wouldn’t want to go to during the day or for dinner. It’s only really appropriate for late night. It actually just went through a name change and is now called Felcaro Pizzeria but it’s basically just the same as it was when it was called Pizzetta.
They usually have a pretty good selection and you’re likely to run into some interesting people while you’re there late night. You might not feel so hot the next day, but maybe it was worth it? Maybe?

I’ve never actually been to Bova’s late night. But I’ve dreamed about it several times. it is open all night long! As in, all night! As in yes, 24 hours. They never close! If only there were more hot going out spots in the North End, I would probably end up at Bova’s every time I went out. This place is crazy good for…just about everything! I love their cannolis, but all of their pastries that I’ve tried are pretty excellent. And they have a huge and delicious cookie selection to die for.
But if you’re not really in the mood for something sweet, you can always order a calzone, arancini, pizza, or a sub.
How can you not love a bakery that stays open 24 hours a day?? Seriously, that might be the best thing in the world.

IHOP
Perfect for all your 2:00 a.m. cravings, right?
I mean, IHOP isn’t exactly my favorite place in the world. I’d really rather not hang out at IHOP, especially given all the amazing breakfast spots in and around Boston. But sometimes at 3:00 a.m. you’re ready for breakfast, even though you haven’t gone to bed yet. And there aren’t really many breakfast options at that time. So, IHOP it is.
You probably already know about their huge selection. Get the Grand Slam if you want to sample them all. If you eat too much at IHOP, you might not feel too hot when you wake up the next afternoon, but hey, it was good while you were eating it, right?

Ian's Chicago Pizza...I Wish!
Ian’s isn’t in Boston. UNFORTUNATELY. It’s in Chicago. But if there’s one thing Boston needs, it’s an Ian’s Pizza. It’s open until 3:30 a.m. on Saturdays and all night long, the amazing selections keep coming. They have mac and cheese pizza! They have steak and chese pizza! They have pizza with french fries on it! They even have s’mores pizza! I wanted to try them all and had to seriously hold myself back from ordering one of each.
Ian’s, please come to Boston as soon as possible!

Um, look. It’s mac and cheese pizza. Two of the best foods ever, combined!!
And go to one of Boston’s late night hot spots instead. Trust Jim Gaffigan on this.
The Shang holds a lot of dear memories to me. Since my best friend lives in Beacon Hill, many a night we would end up here. And while the Chinese food is ridiculously greasy, it is SO good at 1:00 in the morning. I highly recommend the scallion pancakes, lo mein, and chicken fingers. Oh, and the scorpion bowls are perfect if you need a little bit of a nightcap.
Then Tony, the manager, decided he didn’t love me and Sara anymore. We made him stay open too late. He started to be kind of mean to us. So we stopped going. We still talk about it a lot and wonder if Tony will accept us back at some point.
You should go and check it out yourself and tell Tony we say hi.

The South Street Diner is a place I’m seriously ashamed I’ve never been. I don’t hang out in the area very much, so I guess the opportunity to go there has never arisen. But I’m determined to make it there at some point very soon.
South Street Diner is open until 5:00 a.m. making it perfect for that late night/early morning breakfast. From what I hear, the service isn’t all that fabulous. But do you really care about service at 5:00 a.m.? The food is just the way diner food should be. And that’s really all that matters.

Late night sushi? Um, yes please. Some people don’t crave sushi in the middle of the night when they’re a little bit buzzed. But I do. A lot. Also, if you pig out at sushi at 2:00 a.m. you’re likely to feel a little better about yourself in the morning then if you eat, say, an entire order of scallion pancakes.
Apollo is open until 4:00 a.m. making them the perfect stop on your way homr from the bar. The sushi isn’t too horrible either, especially considering you don’t have very many other options at that time. But they have lots of other items on the menu, if you’re not feeling the late night sushi from a hole in the wall.

Miel is located in the InterContinental Hotel and is for anyone looking for late night food that’s actually not filled with grease and fat. Miel is actually a nice restaurant and it’s open 24 hours!! The food is really good at Miel, but more expensive than say, IHOP. On the upside, you’ll probably feel a little bit better about yourself the next morning. And not quite so sick.
