The Biggest Sports Upsets
Sports. Gotta love them. They make us laugh and sometimes, they make us cry. Today we're focusing on the latter. There are a ton of sports upsets that have hurt fans throughout history. I chose my choices based on the teams I enjoy, but I want to hear about yours. Which disappointments in sports history make you cringe?
Giants Defeat Patriots In Super Bowl XLII
As a Bears fan, it comes as no surprise that I am not a fan of the Mannings. Sure my beef is with Peyton, but Eli’s face is just as stupid. So guess who I was rooting for during Super Bowl XLII? I wasn’t fond of either team, but it would have been nice to see the Patriots end their season with a perfect record. For a while, I really thought it would happen, but noooo. Eli and his stupid face had to mess it up. Thanks. Now I’m stuck seeing both him and his brother in commercials for Oreos, watches and deodorant for the next two seasons.
It took the Bears HOW long to get back in the Super Bowl?! Almost my entire life! And what do they do when they get there?! They eff it up!
Hogan v. Andre the Giant in Wrestlemania III
No one expected Hogan to win this one.
The Cubs
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Cubs fan, but I can’t take their games.
They win and win and win, get to the playoffs, and right when it all matters, they suddenly forget how to play baseball!
The year was 1994. Jordan had announced his first retirement. This meant Pippen had to pick up the role of the team leader, which he did. In the playoffs, the Bulls met the New York Knicks in a pivotal series to reach the NBA Finals. It was Game 5 in Madison Square garden, the series tied 2-2. Time was winding down when Hubert Davis of the Knicks attempted a 20 footer. He missed the shot, but Hue Hollins called a phantom foul on Scottie Pippen, giving Davis 2 free throws, sealing (and stealing) the game. New York advanced after 7 games, and Chicago went packing.
