Best Xbox 360 Video Games of 2007/2008
Calling of you hopelessly addicted video game chumps, such as myself; I have compiled a list of the top eight video games of 2007/2008 for the Xbox 360 video game console. These games are by far the best for a number of obvious reasons, including being named Games of the Year, as well as selling more copies than any of the other games released. Check the magazines, they agree with me wholeheartedly. If you ever found yourself wondering what are the best games currently available for the Xbox 360, here the best eight, and three bonus honorable mentions.
No. 1: Grand Theft Auto IV
This game defines the very reason to own an Xbox 360 console. Period. Rockstar spent four years developing this game with near exact replica of New York City, dubbed Liberty City. You can go anywhere, spanning 80,000 virtual square miles. Buy guns, food, go out on dates, use your cell phone, call friends and go bowling, shoot pool.
Then you get to shoot the bad guys, which you are one, drive tons of cars, crash them, blow things up, steal helicopters and so much more. With over 80 in-game missions, and more downloadable content to be released only for the Xbox 360, plus amazing Xbox Live play, there is not a game that can even come close to topping this definite Xbox 360 game of the year in 2008.
No. 3: Madden NFL Football 2008
The best football game to ever be created. Sure there are some glitches and some things that EA sports could have spiced up. But the HD features, the high frame rates and all of the team management features available in the Franchise mode, not to mention the awesome Xbox Live play against opponents, as well as updatable rosters online, makes this the best football game out there.
Don’t expect to see any competitors for quite some time either, as EA owns the exclusive NFL rights for the next several years. While the in-game play takes a while to grasp the hang of, before you know it you will be signing and trading players, and working your team into a super power dynasty that has never been seen before.
No. 5: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008
If you thought that Tiger Woods 2007 was awesome, then you will love this game. You can custom create your own golfer, and train them to get better. Work your way through an immense PGA tour season that can span 20 career years. You can buy custom outfits and clubs as you improve your player to become the very best. And yes, there is a final showdown with Tiger Woods.
There are tons of great courses, the graphics are amazing, the in-game controls rock, and you can even create your own custom courses. The Xbox Live play is also entertaining, and once you get into the swing of things, it is hard to put this game down.
No. 7: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
If you like shooter games then this one is a keeper. Take your soldier through a modern day battlefield, to the likes of something you have never seen before in any video game. Soldier’s look and feel real, the AI is impressive and hard to beat. It has an awesome Xbox Live multiplayer feature as well.
The graphics are very good and the frame rates are fast. You get to play all features of modern warfare, from planes assisting troops, to tanks, to snipers. Its up to you to help the US keep the world safe and secure. But mind you, there will be some boards that just take a few tries to beat. All-in-all, this is a great shooter, one of the best that I have ever played.
Rainbow Six: Vegas
This is the best strategy shooter ever made, and the best damn Clancy game out there. You can customize your weapons sets and your players gear, to make the best damn soldier possible. Tons of in-game gadgets make this game always fun to play over and over again. The controls are the very best, and they have the best ducking feature that I have ever seen in a game. The best part is that you can play two players on the same team, and on the same console. Sweet!
Rainbow Six: Vegas Two
The second installment in the Rainbow series has its glitches, but enhanced two-player, same console play, as well as more outfits and weapons, and more boards make this game worth mentioning. It really just serves as an expansion pack for the first, as there is not much new here but about 12 new boards and enhanced enemy AI. Still if you own the first one, you need to get your hands on a copy of this one; it rocks!
F.E.A.R.
First Encounter Assault Recon is the name behind the acronym. This game delivers high definition graphics, and scare-you-out-of-your-wits, in-game play. The enemy AI is impressive and can be hard to beat. The boards are large and very detailed, and they follow a very witty in-game plot. Just when you think you have beaten the game, get ready, they have tons more levels for you to conquer. For graphics, gore, and awesome controls, this game is very worth of an honorable mention.
No. 2: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
This game is like GTA, but for fantasy RPGs. A huge free-world invites you to find thousands of different places, towns, cities, dungeons, castles, mountains, and more. You character is fully customizable and you can created custom spells, buy stores, enchant items, create and repair custom armor and weapons, pick flowers and vegetation growing in the free-world, and make potions with alchemy devices.
You can also complete about 80 in-game missions and about 100 side missions. There is plenty of downloadable content on Xbox Live, and the game takes a few hundred hours to beat. Just when you thought you went everywhere, there are about fifty more places that you find. If you like RPGs, this one puts all the rest of them to shame.
No. 4: NCAA College Football 2008
This is the best college football game ever to be released. You can choose from 118 different schools. You can scout and sign players, talk to them on the phone, tell them about the features of your school and convince them to sign on for a scholarship. This in-game play is great; it does have a few minor glitches however. The announcing is the best I have seen in any football game to-date.
You can also play in Legend mode, where you take a single player and try to make him the best player ever. The announcers even keep track of school records and NCAA records, so when you beat one, they are all yappy about it. The best part is that when your school class of seniors graduates, you can import the class to Madden 2008, and draft them in the upcoming season.
No. 6: Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation
Finally, Ace Combat released a new fighter game, and to be honest, this is the only good one currently out, until Tom Clancy releases his. But the Ace Combat series is the best selling to-date and for many reasons. There are tons of unlock-able aircrafts that you can customize the weapons sets on. Take your pilot through an impressive world that has a great storyline and awesome in-game dialogue.
The boards are huge and you will have to assist several portions of your country’s armies advancing at once. By sea, water, air and ground. The battles are intense and with plenty of downloadable content on Xbox Live, not to mention awesome Xbox Live multiplayer capabilities, and the best damn fighter graphics you will ever see, its clear why the Ace Combat series is the best.
No. 8: Halo 3
Picking up where Halo 2 left off, the adventure begins anew. Great graphics and multiplayer boards are fun. But there is something missing in this third installment. Perhaps it is just the redundant storyline, or the same weapon sets that place it as eighth overall on my list. However, for all fans of this very popular series created by Microsoft, we all know that we love Halo. I just think that they could have spent more time changing things up. But still, Halo 3 is the best alien shooter that you will wrap your hands around.
