Life in America is smoking! Quite literally, actually, and if you are not familiar with the hookah lounge craze that has been sweeping in popularity in the youth in this country let me briefly fill you in. It’s damn popular. Hookah lounges have seemingly been popping up anywhere and everywhere. As more and more people realize that they enjoy smoking the relatively harmless Shisha tobacco that really just vaporizes instead of turning into smoke. Not to mention that fact that it is entirely legal and will stay that way as it is merely tobacco with a Middle Eastern influence. Arizona is just like the rest of the states when it comes playing on the bandwagon of the hookah café phenomenon. I have had the smoking pleasure of checking out many of the local cafes myself over the past few years. So if you find yourself in AZ and want the hookah, don’t get burned! Read this guide first and have a smoking good time!

Belly Dancers Entertain Guests at Layalena
The awesome atmosphere of this great restaurant and hookah lounge is complimented by their very beautiful belly dancers who entertain guests to live music on the weekends.
This small hookah bar located in the college town of South Tempe, Arizona is fairly popular—even if the exterior reminds one of an old Pizza Hut building. They have seating for about forty or more inside and they offer all flavors of hookah Shisha as well as some cold drinks and decent eats. Mostly a college crowd hangs out here composed of fraternity boys and others.
When at King Tut you will be able to smoke a hookah for about $10 per person. They also sell most accessories, parts, hookahs and Shisha. The place can be hard to find and get to because they are located on Apache BLVD and the whole street is currently undergoing construction and renovations.
While the building is aging, the service and the prices are good. Perhaps this combined with the college-like atmosphere was what prompted the Phoenix New Times to award with them with Best Hookah Lounge in Tempe. I personally had a great time last that I was here.

Located adjacent to the most popular non-franchise coffeehouse in South Scottsdale, and neatly tucked into the complex, is Pita House. This non-fancy, Middle-Eastern restaurant was opened by a very nice and welcoming Lebanese family about seven years ago.
Aside from the fact that they pride themselves on both their excellent food, which is amazing, and great service—they also happen to offer an outdoor hookah lounge on their patio.
They provide the hookah for free and all you have to do is pay for the Shisha, which is market-priced. For about $5 per person, you can enjoy smoking flavored Shisha from a huge hookah and enjoying the evening on their decently-sized patio. Culture Lebanese music plays from overhead speakers, adding to the experience.
The place itself is not really adorned with any decorations so to say. But it is very clean, well kept and nice. If one is able to staunch past the Old West atmosphere of Old Town Scottsdale, this place makes for a great hookah getaway for not too many bucks.

This cool and fairly large website offers all of the hookah gear and accessories, and tobacco that you will ever need. Their prices are pretty damned good and they have most major brands. You will not pay a lot here, but you will get a lot.
If the above website did not have everything that you were looking for in hookah gear and accessories then check out this site. They have it all. Chances are that you will find the hookah gear that you seek at a pretty hookah-low price. Making your worries go up in smoke.
Common Hookah Pipe
The hookah pictured above burns hot coals underneath the tobacco which sits in the bowl atop. Smoke vapors are inhaled through the tubes, where the smoke first passes through water before reaching the smoker
This seemingly small, yet very welcoming hookah lounge is almost hidden in a small retail complex in South Tempe. But when you do find your ways inside this place you will be quite surprised and happy that you decided to do your smoking here.
This café is decently sized inside and features about a dozen really nice sofas, loveseats and chair all arranged in sections for groups of people to sit and smoke at. Backlights that are strung throughout as well as cool decorations setting the right mood. They also have small and prepackaged foods that you can order like bagels and muffins as well as hot coffee, teas, and sodas.
Hookah costs about $10 per person here and they even have people who will come by and place new coals in your hookah to keep it hot and smoking. They feature live music most nights of the week, where Middle Eastern performers entertain the guests. And finally, they have belly dancers that will do dances from time to time either solo or in groups.

Other Great AZ Hookah Lounges:
Smiley’s Ultimate Hookah Lounge
503 E. Ninth St Tucson, AZ 85705
While I have not had the pleasure of smoking a hookah here at Smiley’s, mostly because it is located about 200 miles south of me, I have heard many a good things. This place differs from many hookah lounges because they really just focus on the hookah and smoking it. Many other places serve food and have live entertainment and other things.
Smiley’s is an all-around hookah lounge and accessories store. They have even announced their planned launch of their online store soon where customers can order hookah pieces and accessories securely online. If you find yourself in the Tucson area and are craving a hookah, Smiley’s is sure to make you smile! Two videos from Smiley’s are included below so check them out.
The Casbah Tea House
628 N. Fourth Avenue Tucson, AZ 85705
I have heard good things about this tea house, coffeehouse and hookah lounge. But I have yet to venture the trek to Tucson to make it a reality. My friends tell me the interior is really cool, roomy and that the service is great. That aside they have all sorts of flavors of Shisha, great tea and a cool atmosphere. Hookah smokers can enjoy a long smoke for about $8 per person; which is in par with the seemingly going rate at most hookah lounges.
This smaller Middle Eastern restaurant in Tempe is best known for its gyros and other great Eastern Eats. But you can also smoke the hookah here and for cheap. They also sell hookahs and parts and they have plenty of great flavors of Shisha on hand. The service is decent and the prices are even better. It is one of the few hookah lounges that you can actually eat good food at that is freshly prepared.

While I have not been able to make it down to Sinbad’s as of yet — I have several good friends who have smoked there before. They told me that while the place was rather small and quaint they did offer great prices and service. They also have sodas and teas and they sell most hookah parts, accessories and of course, Shisha.

Smokers kick back at the small and tucked in Smiley’s hookah Lounge in Arizona. While this hookah lounge is not the most popular of them all here, they do garner their fair share of repeat customers, primarily college students.
