The Best in Online Coupons
Once the territory of old ladies with too much time on their hands, women with 14 children (*ahem*) or the notoriously cheap, coupon clipping is looking more appealing to more people every day. Thankfully, with the advent of the Internet, you can do all of your "clipping" online so you don't even have to touch newsprint or safety scissors. These are some of the best sites that I've found.
DealStop doesn’t just list coupon codes, but also really great online deals that you don’t even need a code to get. My favorite part of this hip coupon site is the “eco-deals” section which has discounts listed for things like solar chargers and LED flashlights, all with DealStop’s uberhelpful “Bottom Line” price in red.
While getting $2 off a DVD of When Harry Met Sally might not be the most prudent use of your funds, Coupons.com does have some good deals on practical things including toilet paper (I need that!), shampoo (necessity!) and yogurt (a life without yogurt is no life at all). You can also search by zip code for targeted local coupons.
The user interface on this site is quite good: you click a little check box that says “Clip” on all the coupons that you want and then go to your “cart” and print them all at once. You don’t have to sign up for anything, but you do have to install their special coupon printing software before you can print your coupons…a small price to pay for cheap yogurt!
While this site is not quite as fun and flashy as Coupons.com, there are many good deals to be found here. In addition to printable coupons, there are a lot of checkout codes to save money online and the site is very well-organized. You can sort by Most Popular, Grocery Coupons, Free Shipping Offers, even FREE SAMPLES!! Definitely useful, even if their design could use a few tweaks.
Oh yes, after years and years of providing your with lining for your bird cage, SmartSource has gone online with their coupons (don’t worry, you are going to keep getting them in the mail, too). Though I was initially turned off by the fact that the site DOES NOT SUPPORT FIREFOX (WTF!!), I was won over by the fact that they have good deals on Hummus, which is an important staple of my diet. Like Coupons.com, you do have to download their coupon printing software before you can get the deals. They actually have a lot of the same coupons as Coupons.com, so you might just want to pick which site you like better instead of signing up for both.
This site unfortunately only lists prices for Meijer, Kroger and Giant Eagle (WTF?) for price comparison, which is probably very helpful if you shop at those stores. Beside that, they get their coupons from coupons.com and smartsource.com,
but they do have some interesting giveaways which might be worth your time to check out.
Tips for Using Online Coupons
Apply the same prudence you would clipping regular coupons…
- Just because you have a coupon for it does NOT mean that you MUST buy it
- If you must buy something in bulk to use a coupon, it might not be worth it
- Do you have the space?
- Can you use/eat it before it goes bad?
- And most importantly with printable coupons, make sure to check with your grocery store that they will accept online coupons before you go printing them all out
The best deals on Amazon via twitter! What a great idea!
Stephanie Nelson, AKA CouponMom has been featured on Oprah, Good Morning America and Guidespot (as of right now). She’s made a name for herself with her ebook (which is on her site for FREE) called “Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half.” Besides the titillating title, the “book” is actually 11 pages of great tips for saving money on FOOD, which we all need (with the possible exceptions of Kate Moss and Teri Hatcher). Her site is also a treasure trove of coupons, though there are a number of annoying ads. For instance, one that was “Especially for Me” said it was “Look for Extremely Overweight Women.” Um, EXCUSE ME?
Besides that, you do have to sign up to access the coupons, but once you do you get some extremely helpful stuff, like a list of unadvertised deals at your local grocery stores. Right now, I could be saving 87% on Powerade at Vons! I should stock up for my next bender!
According to their website, “RetailMeNot.com is an easy way to find online coupon codes. Enter these codes at the checkout page of participating merchants for instant discounts.” No printable coupons here, but there is an added incentive to check out this site: if you post coupon codes in their forums that get traffic, you get 50% of the ad revenue from your post. Probably won’t amount to enough to take advantage of that VictoriasSecret.com deal, but still!
Not as useful as some of the other sites here, their printable grocery coupons are mostly for products like Sun-In (DO NOT USE THIS! Ask me for pictures of Summer 1998 if you need to know why!), but they do have a pretty good collection of online deals for A LOT of stores .
