The Best Old School Video Game Is...
I have to admit I'm behind in the world of video games. I've played Wii tennis, but that's about it. Most 3-D games make me feel kinda nauseous (I know I sound like I'm 84), and the one time I played James Bond on my brother's Xbox I kept on getting shot in the back-- give me pixelated 2-D games any day of the week. So let's talk old school video games, shall we? (Feel free to contribute computer games, arcade games, etc...)
Final Fantasy II
I don’t care if they came out with out about 16 more Final Fantasy’s after this one— I ABSOLUTELY loved this game. Sure it looks like some kid in a high school art class in Japan drew the images, but it’s still TOTALLY awesome.
Street Fighter II
As kids my siblings and I never kicked the crap out of each other, but that’s probably because we played Street Fighter II instead. The best thing was when you did that secret code thingy and you got the characters to be able to fight against other versions of themselves. Chun Li vs, Chun Li II style.
Defender
Spent many quarters on this one. I liked the Atari version better.
Atari 2600 Combat
The free game that came with Atari 2600. You can’t beat the graphics on this one.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
I can’t tell you how many countless hours I spent playing this game. Remember the Pegasus Boots? Ah, memories… I don’t think I ever actually found Zelda, but video game endings are totally overrated, right?
The Oregon Trail
Who doesn’t love The Oregon Trail? You got bitten by snakes, contracted typhoid, and died from dysentery. If that’s not good, clean fun, I don’t know what is.
Galactica
Now, this is my favorite. This one was at the neighborhood pizza place where everyone hung out. Quarter after quarter… We even smashed nickels with a hammer to the size of a quarter. There are still dents in the concrete at my parents house.
Pac-Man
Still the best, hands down!
