The BEST dance scenes to two-step their way onto the BIG screen
With a remake popping up every couple of months (I'm talking about you Footloose) I've started pleading with directors to not recreate the early classics. I can't imagine Chace Crawford playing Ren. Could you imagine someone recreating a Gene Kelly dance? I can't. I've highlighted some of my favorite dance scenes from movies, and some that just make me giggle. What are your favorites? Would you want to see that recreated?
Sometimes you gotta dance it out
Sometimes venting to friends or screaming into a pillow doesn’t work. Sometimes you’ve just got to dance it out.
Ren’s mad. He’s a city boy living in a small country town and they won’t let him listen to his music or dance. Well, not to be told what to do, Ren takes it to the warehouse and dances his frustration out.
After being accused of bludgeoning an officer, supporting integration and woo’ing the heartthrob, Tracy makes a surprise appearance at the Miss Hairspray Pageant to tell blondie and the world that they can’t stop her from shaking what her momma gave her.
They’re all completely different, but they’ve bonded through their love of dance. What else is there to do during detention? Dance it out!
Zac Efron is mad. He’s wet and mad. He’s shirtless, wet and mad. He’s mad because there’s basketballs falling out of the ceiling! He’s… dancing because he’s discovering he has to trust his heart. He can’t live your dreams!!! “I don’t want your life!” (10 points if you can tell me what movie that line is from.)
Dance-offs
Anything you can do I can do better. I can do anything better than you.
I’m not a huge American Pie fan, but this is quiet possibly the best scene from all the AP movies. Steve Stiffler’s moves and coordinating facial expressions are hilarious. Seeing a very manly man prance around to “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” is awesome.
It’s impossible to find a good clip from this movie. Impossible I say! This movie could also go under classics.
This bothers me. Why are they dancing in the rain? Have you ever tried dancing in wet jeans? I’ve tried walking in wet jeans and it’s not fun. What about squishy shoes?
Dance scenes not in movies, but should be
I would have never guess that this commercial was for T-Mobile. It’s awesome none the less. I wish something like this would happen at Union Station in Chicago. I’d dance, too! And by dance I mean move awkwardly without rhythm.

I LOVED this movie— Billy is so freaking cute. And how can you not love a dance number set to a “Town Called Malice”?

Classic Dances
These dances have been around for a while. They’re talked of and recreated often (especially at weddings and talent shows!)
I’m never this happy when stuck in the rain (wet jeans and squishy shoes don’t make for a graceful dancer), but I can’t help but sing the song! The dance, of course, is a classic! Not many people can pull it off quite like Gene Kelly.
Another “Singing in the Rain” classic. This is probably my favorite song/dance of the movie. It might not be as well know as Gene’s rain dance, but I still think this belongs in the classic category. Everyone wants to laugh :)
Did you really think I’d forget this one?
So this is a difficult clip to not only find (shockingly), but embedding it is even harder. So if you want to watch it, just click on the clip and it’ll open up in You Tube.
This was another hard one to find! Excuse the poor quality!
This dance has been recreated many times in FAO Schwartz, especially by yours truly.
I know for a fact that leaving this one out would be detrimental to my health. John, while long out of his Saturday Night Fever dance days, still can move it on the dance floor. Uma is…well, she’s Uma :)
This scene makes me want to find a leotard, some thick socks and dance my little heart out. Isn’t Jennifer Beals gorgeous? She still looks amazing!
Group Dances
Group dances make me wish I lived in a musical so it wouldn’t be strange when everyone broke out in dance knowing all the steps and nailing the timing.
My wedding. Seriously. There will be Thriller. I’ll be the drunk cotton ball dancing like a zombie. Can’t miss me.
I feel like I was ripped off when I bought my prom ticket. Usher wasn’t the DJ and my classmates sure as hell didn’t know how to dance.
